Question about downriggers for the Sound

Generically speaking, how deep are guys going with downriggers for Blackmouths in the Sound?  I'd like to know what's 'typical' and extreme before I search for my first downrigger.

Blackmouth are usually found just off the bottom so trolling depth varies. I fish the south sound between solo point and the Nisqually delta in the winter for Blackmouth and have found 100-120' to be the most productive. I have 300 ft of Powerpro braid on my Scotty Depthmaster but have never trolled  much deeper than 120'. Hope that helps

To be able to get to the depths where you could get at blackmouth you might as well just try an mooch. Trolling a down-rigger on a yak for blackmouth is alot of work for not alot of return. It is also recommended to follow the 5-10ft line within bottom or structure change.

I have run a scotty 1050 on my adventure, worked great for pinks, coho. I have 200ft of braid on it, but I couldn't imagine trying to follow contour chasing blackmouth.  But keep in mind there is nothing quite like reeling in 150+ feet of line in with a fish on with a heavy down rigger ball.

I agree with SeattleYakker, and in fact, most of my winter Blackmouth have been taken drift mooching with herring...but you asked about downriggers
