So does anyone else use outriggers besides me? I have a 14.5 foot sit in kayak that is not the best fishing platform in the rough open ocean. So I have made several different types of outrigger and found one to work the best. I used pvc pipe and fittings, and four crab pot buoys. It is easy and cheap to make and provide a very stable fishing platform. It is so stable i can stand up in open water.

Welcome southcoast paddler.  I picked these up this winter.  I've yet to try them though.  Scott Stabilizers ... a bit more expensive than PVC and crab pot buoys though.

Drove through your town this weekend on our way back up to Seattle.  Stopped and got a coffee and did a quick tour.  Nice place.

Lets see some detailed pics of your outrigger set-up.

Southcoast, does your setup use the ball-mounted RAM rod holders? I saw a setup like that in the articles on the Kayak fishing stuff website. I think I need to build some to be able to cast like the sit-on-top guys. They sell a kit that has everything but the PVC I'm thinking about picking up.

The cool thing about the outrigger set up I made is you do not have to drill any holes in your yak. It works on all types of kayaks. I have pics that i will send anyone who is interested.

Why not post them? Sure even those who think they're not interested will get a kick out of them no matter what.

+1 on posting them. I'd like to see a setup that doesn't require punching holes in my boat.

Hey Southcoast;

I also made outriggers from pvc and lobster floats.  Got the floats from Hamilton Marine.  My Hobie Sport is so short that this design limits my paddle stroke in surf launch, but I only go out on really calm days anyway.  I love my outriggers, especially as a dive and crabbing platform, and I've sailed in 12 knot winds (NOT recomended, as it might snap the mast).

No holes are drilled.
