I had to replace a guide on one of my steelhead rods and needed a way to spin the section while I wrapped and glued it.  Seeing how I have yet to grow up the first thing I though about was Legos.  I somehow lost my lego motor but I was able to make due without one.  What do you guys think?

The knights are there to make sure no one touched it while the epoxy was drying.

Beware the boredom of an engineer.  Especially one with beer and Legos.

Ha Ha Ha. You Win! (I'm not sure what, but there's got to be some kind of award for this.)

Did you use the fly -tying bobbins to wrap the thread as well? :o

Awesome - Love it!

She though that when I told her I was going to play with Legos I was kidding, but then I appeared with the rod wrapper she was was pretty impressed.  She did question the knights though.

No, I ran the line from the spool in the front through two Lego blocks to create some tension and used my finger to adjust the line position.

One a side note there was a very old pretzel (20+ years) in one on my Lego boxes.

Ndogg, that's using your noggin!

I gave my Lego's to my son and keep adding to the collection.
Every once in a while we break them out and play together.

I learned a lot about physics, structure, gearing, torque, propulsion, etc... from years of playing with Lego's as a kid.

We can scale it up for my campfire rotisserie cot so no side of you ever gets cold.

So, basically... I need these plans so I don't have to buy a rod wrapper.  Please. :)  And yes, I am serious... we have lots of legos.

:headbang:

Ha ha ha. This is why GoPros and YouTube are so popular. There's nothing like watching a guy light himself on fire while strapped to a spinning stick out in the middle of nowhere.
(This sounds like something Jimmy Kimmel would do. Craig, let's get Jimmy to fund the project, you build the rotisserie, I'll hold the camera, and then all we'll need is someone to light them-self on fire. Nate???)

The gearing is pretty easy.  I used a 8 tooth and an 24 tooth cog with the drill hooked up to the 8 tooth cog.  While wrapping the line I added a small handle where the drill is attached so I could turn it by hand.  If I do it again I will use a second 24 tooth cog so that the rod spins the same way as the drill and wheels so it is portable.  I don't recommend using lego spacemen because I don't think they can be trusted.

How did you mate the drill up with the 8 tooth cog?

(chuck the plastic insert into the drill and level the drill with the cog?)
