We're eventually getting sail kits for our Revos 11 & 13 but thought the AMAs would also be good for fishing. I don't want them in front, they'd get in the way. Directly behind the seat's the most common but that's really got to foul up paddling when needed. How far back has worked for anyone?

I can't imagine sailing without out them. My zero experience with sailing would likely have me frequently in the drink, at least while in learning mode. I haven't installed them. I haven't even gotten them yet - hope to have them soon and not fumbling around trying to figure out where to put them. We want to get back in the water soon.....fishing.

You will find that the options are pretty minimal due to the positioning of the locking buttons on the mounting shafts.
And in most if not all cases it affects your paddle stroke.

I use my amas almost all the time for added stability on my little sport, I stand and cast frequently. Haven't had any issues with getting in the way of landing a fish

Do you have yours mounted immediately behind the seat?

Here's where I put mine--it doesn't seem to bother my stroke.

I have a Revo 13.  Is everyone talking about the Hobie Ama's?

I've considered them to allow safer standing.  But, I don't see a good place to stand in my Revo 13?  Seems you'd have to stand on the center hatch area?

A guy over on the Hobie site has had them mounted just in front of the front hatch, which I'd think would interfer with fishing, just behind the seat, the most common but I'd think would interfer a bunch with paddling, and just in front of the rear hatch on his Revo13. He likes the last option and that's where I've decided to mount them also. I'm not familiar with that model Hobie in your picture though.  Just in front of the rear hatch for me would be the same as just behind the rear hatch for you...if that's your Revo we're talking about in the picture.

FWIW.....Unless I'm mssing something I can't mount the sidekicks immediately in front of the rear hatch (Revo 11 & 13) using supplied parts. The release button holes in the center shaft are nearly centered where the mounting brackets should go. Adjusting the holes in or out throws positioning waaaay off. I suppose I could cut a little off each side of the center shaft and drill new holes. That could get things weak and a little ugly for me to do it.

A piece of that prepainted pipe without holes would work for me. It's a 30mm od with a 1mm wall. I need to find a longer length of that that's used for something else I could buy from Hobie parts I suppose.

....or I can remove a small section from the middle of the center shaft and splice it with a 30mm id collar. That should work.
