Marine weather looks good.

Planning on trying something different depending on surf conditions.  I may try to launch off of Bishops beach as far north as I can.  Then head out to 40 to 60 ft of water then head North.  I just don't know what the current situation is in the area and its a LONG ways to anything over 40ft depth ( a mile or more)

Plan B is to cross to the other side.

Plan C is to fish where I always do as it is super easy and super close by the Land's end hotel.

I think we are on the edge of some massive tides which i think is ok for fishing.  Terrible for getting back in one piece.  lol.

Any takers?  Andy you said you went...where and how did it go?  Sonar show at least bait?

Crickets chirping.... Ok. Let me raise the stakes a bit.  I have solid intel on salmon sharks....a little trip to Seldovia is what it might take. Checking in on the transportation now....

I wish I could, but I'm in the process of hoarding leave and not apt to drive 8 hours on icy winter roads,  I'm a weeny and I'll admit it....but a salmon shark definitely ups the stakes.  I'm hoping I might get one of those on that July trip we're goin' on.  Good luck and tight lines!

FYI folks:  just shortened my profile name for easy of response...should have done a while a go, but oh well.   8)

Yep, sounds great ... but instead I think I'll keep to my plans to be on the Big Island by Thursday night. Not chasing salmon sharks, but still hoping to satisfy the fishing jones while there.  Keeping my fingers crossed that the white-haired-one stays healthy enough for me to stay gone a couple of weeks.

CRV83 -- hoard that leave! The July trip is on our calendar too. Assuming Keystone Canyon is clear of snow by then.

Great to hear from ya CRV83!

So here is the deal.  It's $225 one way for up to 6 people.  That's $450 total for up to 6 people.  I'm willing to spend $225 (Its the cost of a charter) but its past my budget really for just me alone.  The ferry is cheaper but their schedule is crazy.  Leave Thursday come back Sunday evening.  I'm willing to come back on Sunday late though my body will hate me Monday.

If I go alone, I do have the chance of hitching a ride with one of the charter captains.  But we are talking salmon sharks here so probably better not to go solo...but I WILL dang it if I don't have takers.  lol.

If I choose the water taxi on either leg, I will likely try to stay somewhere in Seldovia a night.  Pay an extra $150 or whatever winter rates are and get one more day in.

I should also emphasize that my main purpose is to limit out on Kings.  Salmon Sharks I hate to say it will be secondary especially if I am solo.

Going to do my best to hit it tomorrow (Thursday). Will be taking my civic (maroon) launching from somewhere near lands end. I'll decide once I get there if I'm crossing over or staying by the spit.

Nice!!!  The only thing that worries me about safety is insuring I font have a "moose" mount the car at high speeds since I'm driving the civic!

Ok.  So here is the report.  No Kings, nothing that felt like a King.  I was one the water for 6 hours but I also was traveling without fishing for 2 of those hours.

2.5 miles out to the Big Rocks, another mile or so to the mouth of China Poot Bay.  I fished around the spit for about an hour.  Nothing on the sonar.  Things are typically slow on the incoming tide there anyways.  SO I decided to see what it would take to cross over.  Took me 55 minutes without dragging gear to get past the rocks which are the first way point.  Marked a few fish, caught a bunch of pollock (but not crazy) and headed back.  I hate trips where the best thing you can share are scenery pictures!  But here ya go.  Hard to believe I was on an Ocean and not a Lake.  All pics taken with an Iphone

Thats some right pretty water you had out there.
2.5 miles across isn't too bad either.
Sorry to hear you didnt cross paths with any kings.
Maybe should have tried around the green can ???
You've had pretty good luck there, right?
At least it was a nice day otw.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

That area seems to produce best in a falling tide. I had to check across the bay to see how accessible it is for the tournament. Formulating a strategy now, but if the group is serious. I think a water taxi ride to Seldovia might be in order. We will need to keep an eye on the intel leading up to the derby. $450 for a round trip up to 6 folks. Cheap by AK standards.
