I should add that I'm going keep an eye out for Michilutiiq and uuqutiiq.   They fished hard and looked pretty dang comfortable on their outbacks. They will no doubt be a kayak force to reckon with!!! Thanks for going out!!!

It was an awesome day of kayaking, even though we didn't get any fish. We had a wonderful time and are already making plans for our next trip. We've got the bug to catch a king now and won't quit until we do. :)

It was fun to fish with Rudy; we look forward to going out again with you and (hopefully) more of the NWKA gang!

What she said!

Nice to see Rudy's set up, and good to see how our down riggers worked (or didn't at times). All in all, even though the kings didn't jump on board, it was a great first trip. As we discussed afterward--better to re familiarize with the gear and to test those legs out before the fish are really biting! ...

But if homer ever has a winter pollock derby...we'll all win!

Glad you guys had a good time. I bailed cause of the weather forecast. Last year we fished in that 4 foot swell, wind and rain, it was tough for sure and I learned my lesson! But of course the weather looked great. One of my best fishing memories is catching my first king on the kayak! Even the missed strikes and losses at the boat are good memories! We'll get them in May so long as they don't shut down the fishing along the beach

Sounds good, Matt. I hope we get to fish together this year. I really enjoyed the face-to-face opportunity to talk about this fishing thing we do. It was good to see Rudy's set up--as it would be to see other kayak fishers' set ups--for some ideas to talk about what to do and what not to do.

We were surprised by how nice the weather was. Really, it was perfect weather and calm seas. Wish you and AKFishergal were there too. It would have been nice to have someone on a kayak catch a king. Of course, I really wanted that someone to be me...but if not me, then anyone on a kayak would do--just to live up to the pub they gave kayak fishing in Homer write-ups.

My sense from the few encounters I had with locals was that they were also seriously hoping that at least one of us would pull in something. But...hey...202 fish for 907 anglers (some of whom may have doubled) means that even with the disadvantage of less fishing range, we were far from being alone.

In the end, if nothing else, it was a good early fishing gear check for us. And a great chance to meet up with another AK kayak fisher.
