I'm going to have to drop off some kids in Seattle for the weekend, and have the weekend free for fishing. This sounds like it could be fun. Anybody else interested in helping me school the PBers?  ::)

Not much sign of hooknose silvers on the west side of Whidbey this past weekend. Hopefully they'll show up in force in the next few weeks.

I'm planning to be down at Bendo at  Mendo II that weekend.  Why don't you keep on driving and come on down to  Ukiah and join us?

::) Ummm, because it cost about $250-300 in gas (and how much in tickets?), and I'd have enough time for a short nap before turning around (I have ~43 hours between drop-off and pick-up times). Oh, and there's the WAF factor, which would probably end up at record-breaking negative levels.  :'(

One of these days (or years) I'll get back down to CA; my dad is still down in Pacific Grove. It'll just have to wait till we have fewer kids at home and/or I'm not the primary wage earner at a job with no benes.

Still planning to go, but that's as far as my plan goes.  ::)

I'll get to Seattle Fri. evening, top off my gear needs and buy a derby ticket, and then probably head over to Whidbey. I don't want to be too far from the weigh-in, in Everett.

I'll email you early the week before.

The derby sounds like a great reason to hit the water.  Where are you launching from Pisco? I launched from both Mukilteo and Picnic point to fish the East side of Whidbey or Posession bank.  Are you planning to take the ferry to the Island?
I have caught 10 lb silvers between Posession bank and picnic point (just last year around the end of Sept).
At this point there is a lot of sea lion, Dahl porpoise and salmon fry jumping in the area.  No migratory salmon as of yet.

I've made no hard descision on where to launch- I was going to wait til I heard some better skinny on where the fish are!

That said, I'm leaning towards a launch at Edmonds. (That's close to my in-laws, so convenient, and would allow a quick run to Everett, if I catch a weigh-in worthy fish.) There's a park south of the Edmonds Marina, near the oil docks. The bottom drops quickly, here, and it seems the fish run down Admiralty Inlet, run into the shoreline near Edmonds/Mukilteo, and mill around before straightening out and heading to their rivers.

Tides/currents are looking auspicious- http://www.dairiki.org/tides/daily.php/adm/2006-09-23

If the fish STILL seem to be slow at running in, I may head out to Whidbey, and then I would take the ferry. Lot's of launch possibilities out on the island. Possession Park on the SE side (I've never used), David Mackie Park and Double Bluff on Useless Bay, Bush Pt., Lagoon Pt., Admiralty Head at Ft. Casey, the Deception Pass area, and a bunch on the eastside...

Just curious ... has anyone ever fished the lower Snohomish River?  I was thinking about trying to drift the lower river from Cady park in Snohomish down to Langus in Everett.

I'd also love to find some sturgeon holes in the area, supposedly there are some sturgeon in there which makes this the closest sturgeon waters to home.

It's been a long time since I've fished the lower Snoho., and that was from the bank, below Langus. (N. side)

Cady to Langus sounds like a long drift, even with the out-going tide. Unless we get a lot of rain , river flows are low. I think if I wanted to fish the lower river, I'd start from Langus, just an hour before the bottom of the ebb ,ride the current down (or anchor), and then troll upstream with the flood. If I had lots of time I'd go up past Langus and then ride the next ebb back to my rig.

In any case, the estuaries would be a good option for windy days.

I've heard of sturgeon around the lower Skagit, too. I'd like to figure out the sturgie thing. I'm thinking they would be best after the rains start cranking and post salmon spawn. (Going to be a lot of dead meat drifting back down.) The other interesting things about the lower Skagit is the nearby smelt and herring fisheries, and the blackmouth fishery in 8.1-8.2.

Thanks for that info Pisco.  Any idea how far up the Snoho is tidal influenced?

I'm not sure, but in low flows, I wouldn't be surprised if extends close to the town of Snohomish. You might not get current reversal up there, but it might stop.

Wayne and Kurt,

Are you guys still interested in meeting and fishing together? I haven't decided on a launch spot, yet. The fishing reports I've been seeing, aren't very impressive, for the inside waters. I'm going to wait for the WDFW's bi-weekly report, tomorrow, before I make any strong recommendations.

Bill,

Which day are you planning on fishing?  I am looking to get out on Sunday.  Recent reports indicate that the area south of Shipwreck (Brown's Bay?) has been the most consistent.  Overall, I would say that biting fish still are scarce.  I fished out of Possession park on Sunday morning, and while I marked several schools on my FF, I only managed 4 shakers.  I did not see any of the trollers netting any fish at all.

I'm planning on fishing Sat. and Sunday, but I'm still not sure where. The catch reports for the Sound are pretty dismal. >:(  Sekiu is the only place reporting decent catches; even Port Angeles/Ediz Hook is slow. Reports at: http://www.wdfw.wa.gov/fish/creel/puget/

Olson's Resort, in Sekiu  is supposed to be having a derby this weekend, too. http://www.olsonsresort.com/index.php/?p=11 andfor derby rules, http://www.olsonsresort.com/rules.pdf

For the Everett derby, I'm thinking fishing the salt/ ebb tide in the morning, and the afternoon/ flood tide in a lower river.
