I have been looking at using the Plano "Orange" Extra Large Dry Storage Box http://www.planomolding.com/product.php?BCCID=109&PID=604 to store my Plano Waterproof StowAway boxes (10.75" x 7.25" x 1.75") http://www.planomolding.com/product.php?BCCID=139&PID=728. Of course I can't seem to find the XL Dry Box in a local store. I want to figure out if the XL Dry Box with its tray installed, will the Stowaway boxes fit inside and how many? Wondering if anybody has tried this or owns one and can measure the internal dimension? I have emailed Plano and currently have not gotten a reply.

I just bought that box from WalMart online, no one has the large one in the stores.  I can measure the interior tonight for you and let you know, I don't think I have those Plano boxes but I'll check.

Measurements would be great. The size 10.75" x 7.25" x 1.75") is a pretty stand size for Plano boxe so does not need to be exact.

Just a head's up that in my experience these are not water/air tight, as in not even close. I have tested a Flambeau brand and generic brand in 2 different sizes, and both, even with double checking the rubber gasket, are not even close to watertight. It will keep out rain and most splashes, but not laying on its side in water or partial/full submersion of any kind.

If I'm wrong and you find a brand/model that is actually just a tiny bit waterproof I'd love to know! Right now the only options I know of in the general size range for kayak fishing are the Plano guide series watertight boxes (which are awesome in my experience), Pelican cases, and Pelican case knock-offs.

I also found on the smaller "orange" Plano box......the handle SUCKS! and does not stay on........guess thats what you get for $9.99

Once a time ago I read how Pelagic used Vittle Vaults for water tight gear storage. Brilliant idea! They work great and they come in a variety of sizes. Might be a good option for you to consider.

The inside measurements are 14 3/4"L x 8" W x 8 3/4" tall (to the bottom of the tray).  The 8" width is between the braces that are visible on the sides, they are 1/4" on each side of the box.

Your Plano boxes should fit fine.

As for being waterproof, I think it's as waterproof as a milk crate.  ::)

+1
I couldn't be happier with my vault. I can get a 3700 size Plano box in there or use it as a cooler. I want to make another using their smaller box but haven't found the time.
(For the semantic nazis, I wouldn't call it waterproof but I'd have no problem with labeling it watertight.)
I'll start a separate post with pics in case anyone has questions.
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

Looks like the Vittle Vault is going to win out. Being able to find one in a store and get hands on always seems to sway my choices.
