See you at the launch. I'd be down for the trestles if Sunset seems crappy.

I blanked at Sunset. Conditions were poor. I decided to hit the trestles for the low tide. I caught a few small blacks and and a bunch of perch. Before I launched I picked up a handful of cockles on the beach to use for bait. It worked great! I couldn't keep them off. Too bad they were all in the 12 inch range. It was nice to get out and the conditions were far better than Sunset.

I was wondering, the wind was really kicking at my house yesterday. Glad to hear you were still able to get out and catch something.

Launched around 7:30... Condition iffy at best and got worse from there. The north side of the lighthouse was MUCH better conditions and hung with a couple other power boaters. That's fun when a kayak is catching fish and they aren't! :D Even though I only caught 3 and 5 crabs. The paddle back around the outside to Sunset was a little hairy.

Unfortunately my radio crapped out and could only hear the conversations but no one could hear me. I should have joined you at the trestles Chris. Maybe next time.

Just thinking........do we need to start up a Central Coast Roll call ::)

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to initiate a query of the NWKA membership list by location so a new member could figure out which other members are close by or in a local area?  I think this would really encourage easier hook-ups. I wonder if this could be done?    ???

I think that would be a great idea...

2 things I think of when attempting to aggregate the data for members:

First, each member is able to put their own location in generically - unlike a zip code, it may be hard to group them together geographically (for instance, I live in Salem, OR, however, I list myself as Willamette Valley, as I truly relate with the whole valley - wouldn't stop and think twice to go fish with those in Eugene, nor would I hesitate to fish with folks from Portland.

Second, Should there be a policy (required field) to input home fishery zip code (this would still allow members anonymity), then sorting/reporting on the data shouldn't be too difficult. Unsure of the software supporting this site's data (SQL, Raw Storage, DB2), it likely wouldn't be too difficult to write a query in the Members section which would return all members related to a geographical home fishery (exact zip code, region).

If it were made an Ordered List of sorts for the the list items, multiple could be switched on, allowing the user who is search to select more than one city/body of water/zip code...

Again, I'm unaware of the backend of this site, or how much control (admin access) is allowed to the administrators, however, I definitely see if the data is accessible, then it's definitely possible.

*my two cents, not always solicited, but always available  :-\

Sorry guys. I didn't even get my camera out. I don't chase AOTY points either, so it never even crossed my mind. It would have been neat to have a video going showing the conditions of the return paddle. A lesson of "what not to let yourself get caught in". The bow of the 'ol Trident was piercing through every wave. That boat continues to impresses the hell out of me! I didn't dare go sideways to them but was the direction I needed to travel. Even pulling up my crab pots that were outside the rooster was exciting.

Would love to hit the seas with a few of you sometime and learn the ropes.  I'm in Portland and don't mind the drive.

So if you don't mind me asking, where are these tressles that you fish?  My dad just relocated from Portland to Coquille and is looking for some new places to fish.  He's currently stuck on the bank but looking for a boat.  Are there any other bank oppurtunities that you would recomend?  Also is there anywhere in the area to rent a Hobie, or any other fishing yak?  I would like to get him into yak fishing.   Thanks

Chris has a post on here some where about the tressels but I cant find it. They are west of the 101 bridge going into North Bend/Coos Bay, its the train bridge tressles that go across the bay. You take the left turn before the 101 bridge heading towards the dune access, you can easily find it on Bing maps. I believe Chris said there is a gravel parking lot on the left just before the dune access where you can park and launch.

Sunset Bay is an awesome fishery when conditions allow. You can unload and easily launch right on the water. There is no surf and minimal to no waves when launching. You can also drop crab pots on your way out to fish. Sunset is a stae park with bathrooms, picnic tables and such. Just remember the bathrooms dont open until 8am :-\

As far as rentals down there I'm not sure, Hopefully Chris, Roy or Justin can chime in on that.
