good idea about the mandatory first post.  I work in Yellowstone National Park and fish alot around here and the eastern part of Montana.  Also do at least one trip a year to Florida (leave for there in a week).  Did some salmon fishing in WA last year and heading to Homer/Ninilchik this summer.
I like to hunt (elk, deer, antelope, and especially pheasant w/ my wife and two brittanies.  If not hunting or fishing I'm probably skiing or backpacking.
Looks like a nice forum.  Looking forward to learning from all of you.

Mike:

I'm from Missoula, and do a lot of lake trout fishing in Western Montana.  Are you familiar with lake trout fishing in Yellowstone Lake?  If you aren't, can you suggest a fisheries biologist who can give me some suggestions about lake trout fishing in Yellowstone Lake?

yes, i am somewhat familiar with fishing yellowstone lake.  it opens June 15th and the fishing is usually good and the fish can be pretty shallow.  they do go deep as the water warms up though.  let me know when you are coming and I can get you a report that is up to date and also suggest some locations.

you know any good spots for northerns out your way.

also, I'll try and get you some numbers for one of the fish biologists.

The biggest lake trout fishery in Western Montana is in Flathead Lake.  However, many other lakes in the Flathead drainage have lake trout, such as the lakes around Whitefish, pretty much all the big lakes in Glacier Park, and Swan Lake, Lindbergh Lake, and Holland Lake in the Swan drainage.  There are also lake trout in Fort Peck Reservoir, although I have never fished there.

I want to get up to Glacier Park to do some lake trout fishing.  If you can use your National Park System connections to get some suggestions about where to fish for lake trout in Glacier Park, it would be fun to get together pursue efforts to reduce the population of that invasive species.
