been lurking around for a while and figured id join and throw something on to the board.  I love fishing, moved here to alaska(coast guard) my neighbors convenced me to take one of their kayaks out fishing arcross from our house.(we live right off the water)  They told me i might catch some rockfish, i was out enjoying life, not catching anything, glassy water, pole in the rod holder witha 16oz jig just sitting there.  then the kayak moved, and moved again.
40mins later i learned you dont try and gaff a 58" halibut from a kayak, called some poeple, including my wife towed the halibut into shore and we managed to land it.  Since then i have done pretty well going for halibut from the kayak, nothing that size since though, and i just put an order in for a kayak of my own, a Ocean Trident 13 angler.
other than halibut, ive caught different rockfish(yellow eyes, silver grays, browns), salmon, cod and dogfish. looking forward to checking this site out more, and i cant wait to get out on the water with this new kayak!

Welcome to the board.  Most of you folks down in southeast are lucky enough to just walk out your front door and be at the ocean's edge....good memories from when I lived in Wrangell.  BTW, what scenic community do you live in down there in SE?

Welcome!  Having lived in Alaska since 1971 for the most part, I still consider fishing in Southeast a bucket list type of trip for the exact reason you mention.  Envious!!!

Lots of great info here!  Glad to see a few more Alaska folks here!
