Heading back to the boat ramp after sturgeon fishing last Saturday, my buddy said the right pedal was starting to feel funny. I checked it out and couldn't see anything wrong so we just kept going.  I figured I'd look at it when I got home.
I ended up getting some sort of Willamette disease and I almost died this week and never got around to checking out the mirage drive problem.
I didn't almost die but I was pretty sick, I'm better now haha. I finally got a chance to look at the drive and this is what I find.

Ouch, that sucks!  Looks like your chains may have been a little too loose.

That not good!  Hope the repair part aren't too expensive, but what isn't these days?  Glad to hear you are feeling better anyway.

I'm not sure if that was the problem. When I loosened the cables to the chain, a bunch of the teeth on the sprocket crumbled into my hand. Notice that the sprocket is split in two. It's usually one solid piece!
My friend isn't at fault for this. He was the final straw I guess. I failed to check on things more regularly.
This is a good example of what can go wrong on the water. Lucky we were only a couple hundred yards from the boat ramp.

Same thing happened to my paddle.....  :P

Glad to hear you're feeling better!  There's a nasty crud going around PDX.

That is probably a factor, one I didn't even consider.

YES WE DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's funny though.  When my mirage drive malfunctions, which isn't often, I just grab my paddle and just like that, I'm back to being equal with the paddlers.   ;D

Equal might be stretching it a little.  :P

I'm surprised you don't prefer it this way... Just like your ladies, missing a few teeth! Lol kidding.

Glad your buddy was able to make it back to shore safely and you remembered to check it before taking it out again.

How do you fix something like this?  Are spares available?  Maybe I should have gone to the January NWKA clinic on Mirage Drive repair.

Easy fix. Next and the Shed should both have the parts in stock. Bring it to the springer clinic if you're coming.
