The On-The-Water portion of the Portland Springer Clinic will be held at Davis Bar on April 5th.

The tides look great and with any luck the water conditions will continue to improve.  I'm planning on being at the parking lot adjacent to Davis Bar around 6:30AM.  There's plenty of free parking and both Oregon and Washington fishing licenses are valid when launching here.  Don't forget your Columbia river endorsement and invasive species permit.

Appropriate Gear:
Bait
Mooching, Spinner or Prawn Spinner Rigs
Weights
Leader for your dropper line
Flashers (if you've trolled before)
Sliding swivels or 3-way swivels
Beadchains

Anyone who wants an on the water tutorial for chasing springers is welcome.  Nate and I will be available in the parking lot before launch to help you dial in your gear and bait.

Unfortunately I won't be able to make this one but will be in the area on the 12th.  I'll start another thread to see if anybody wants to hook up.

Can you suggest a weight size for me and rigging ?
I am currently trying a deep six for trolling.

I'm in for the 5th - looking forward to it.  Need to see if I can get my son up that early on a Saturday to join us as well...

The typical suggestion is 3 - 6 or more ounces.  The following NWKA write-ups are great for rigging...

http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?page=41 - Jammer's prawn spinners for springers

I think an 8oz cannon ball is a good all-a-round size cannonball.  I'd take some a size up and down so you can match the current.

just my 2 cents.

I usually fish in the 4-6 range but do keep an 8 or two in the box.

I was watching Outdoor GPS yesterday, and the host mentioned that next week, on April 5th, the Annual Fisherman's Marine Springer Derby will be going on in the Columbia and Willamette.  They are expecting 70-100 teams/boats on the water.

I'm not sure if this will affect our class, or if this will be just a few more boats than the normal weekend crowd.  I just thought it might be good to mention it here.

You guys should enter the derby and show them how it's done!
