The 28th will be fine -- I think it's more important to have participation rather than the better tides. This event is more about building the community of Alaskan kayak anglers at this stage. I vote for the 28th -- and I'll go to B&Js to look for some heavier weights to bring along.

Yup. I just want it to be a good get together. I'm hoping by then I've perfected the use of my downrigger for halibut fishing. Catch one then focus on the big one. ...oops there goes my super secret strategy...lol.  I figure 8lbs of lead should be as much lead as I ever want to deal with. Haha. But certain safety considerations will need to be made!!

I think Sarah and I are up for it. At least one of us can be penciled in depending on kid arrangements. Either date. Thi

Just pick either and I'll show up.  Gonna be fishing like a madman around then.

Gonna fill the freezer with yak halibut again this summer

Ok.  Decision time.  Weather could hamper any decisions anyways so we might as well set a date.

JUNE 28! Tide graph is below.

It gives us a chance to fish one big tide exchange and one more moderate one.  Though we can revise the rules, My plan so far is:

1) it's the biggest halibut in inches.
2) It's from sunrise (4:49am) to one hour prior to sunset (for sorta safety 10:30pm)  on Saturday.
3) Weather cooperating we can all "hang out" Sunday morning and early afternoon.
4) It's basically the AOTY rules...sorry AI guys that's just too much advantage here where currents are strong.
5) Location to be determined but I am still thinking we base out of Whiskey Gulch even if we allow fishing from Deep Creek to Homer.

So any help in gathering prizes would be appreciated.  So far I have a cheapo rod and line counter reel, an adult L/XL NRS Life Jacket, and a medium dry bag.  I will donate a similar "trophy".

let's do this!!!!!!!!!!

Are you being serious? It's not a huge deal but I thought we went by AOTY rules. I'm being serious about me being flexible. A lot of my agenda for doing what I do other than I love fishing is for non motorized access and such.

I like AOTY rules -- it's one day out of a season of sailing opportunity.

Hey Kenai_guy, I was re-reading my reply and I thought it might have come across the wrong way. I was honestly asking if you were just kidding or if you truly wanted to use the sail. I apologize if it came across wrong. I truly do want to be flexible as possible.

I'm starting to round up some pretty decent prizes so I would like to keep it as balanced as possible. But I am certainly open to suggestions.  I know I started this tournament. But I want it to be "everyone's" event. It's still in its formative years and I'm hoping it evolves into something great. I'm sure it will continue to be tweaked as we progress.

So this goes for everyone, if you have input, please let me know!!!  I promise I won't take it personally...unless someone suggests anyone named Kardinal is automatically DQ'd...lol.

No....not serious.  Just making noise from the peanut gallery.

I'm game for whatever......sailing wouldn't be too much fun with that big of a swing anyways.  I think I can handle not sailing for one day if it means hanging with the AK Tupperware Navy.

And I think we did use AOTY rules last year.

Rimfirematt and I are the only ones with huge safety flags, and we both have alternate rigs....so game on sans sail

New guy here (notice 1 post which was required by NWKA to browse forum;) I am interested and would love to participate as long as it's not the 28th weekend. BUT if you decide to do it the 21st, I'm in!

Even if I do not participate, I can donate one of my extra NRS clear dry bags (I believe XS or S new in package). I'm in Homer so winner can swing by and pick it up or I can mail it to you or Kardinal?

Just out of curiousity, anyone thought about hiring out to a landing craft to shuttle the kayaks out for a nice fishing/camping outing say to Fox Island out of Seward or across the bay out of K-bay? Homer rates are about the same as when I lived in Seward and Valdez and I can 'phone a friend' depending on how many kayaks want to go out and what town it's staged out. Just a suggestion. Sorry to high jack the thread!
