This summer I hope to take a shot at ocean salmon again.I was going to get some spoons.I have some coyote spoons from lake trout and browns but not sure if I have the right colors or size.I was looking at the spoons that are used on the great lakes but that's a whole different fishery.I have the 1/2 white 1/2 green mostly in size 5.0 .anything will help.thanks

cop car is the color you're after

However, I'd recommend herring/anchovy under a spin helmet, behind a dodger.

My go-to spoon is a Coyote 4.0 Army Truck glow.  Sometimes Copcar, Sometimes Blue/Silver.
Got lots of salmon in the freezer and alot of friends's freezers.

WMA is more common than spoons down here, but my choice is an anchovy on a mooching slip rig.
See you at Gimme Shelter

Not being much of a salmon fisherman myself, I have to ask: Why do most salmon fisherman in OR/WA favor that setup? Is it really that much more effective? Are salmon super crazy about scent? I mean even sharks will hit hard baits.

Scent seems to produce better.  Would be interesting to see a study on it.

4.0 Copcar Coyote Spoon kills it in the ocean.  The salmon are putting on the feedbag before hitting the rivers and they don't take the time to thoroughly sniff your gear.
In the estuaries, I agree that scent and herring are often the ticket but why bog yourself down with more setup time than necessary.

Agree with Spot and BB2 on the blue silver and army truck and the cop car but this one, "kitchen sink" killed them for us last year--lots of coho and springs.

Wondering how many are using flasher and spoon or just spoon?  Also, last year I was using a banana sinker without a dropper since depth was not an issue out in the open ocean.  Worked well and an extra 4 to 6 ounces did not seem to change the fight and netting was not bad.  Thoughts?

I go back and forth between flasher and spoon and just spoon. Just spoon off the rigger is fun for coho as there is no weight at all once the fish is on.
