Just a reminder that the Northwest Paddling Festival will be May 9th & 10th at Lake Sammamish State Park. http://www.northwestpaddlingfestival.com

If you're in the market to buy a kayak or just want to see what's new on the market, this is a great event to see and demo multiple kayaks.  The event runs two days.  For $7 you get a wrist band that allows you to demo as many kayaks as you like.

Also, on Saturday at 10am (10th) Yaktrap and I will be doing a dry land clinic on kayak rigging and how to fish for cutthroat trout on the lake.  Those of you with kayaks and gear are welcome to join us on the water after the clinic for some fishing.  I'm told there will be prizes for biggest fish caught.  Details to follow.

I am hoping to make the class on Saturday and fish afterwards. I have a new 8 weight fly rod and reel that needs to be used and have no experience on Lake Sammamish. What type of fly line should I rig for trolling? Sinking line (II-VI?), sinking tip line, intermediate line, or will an intermediate sink tip do? 20' 4lb leader?

Heavy as you can get. I'm not a fly guy very often, so I'm ignorant of the difference between II and VI sinking line. But you'll want to get down 20' or deeper at a troll of at least 2 mph this time of year. Water temps are near 55 f and trout and bass like a moderately fast presentation.

Maybe I should take a fly fishing class, I could learn the difference between a bobber and a strike indicator.

Yaktrap,
I'll give you a lesson in flys and I will see you guys their on sat.  Mellowyellow, 8wt pretty heavy for trout you might need a 10ft leader so the fish don't see your line but a full sink lll. Should work Ive been using a full sink lll, for trout and have been slaying them on a 4wt. See you guys their on sat. For some awesome fishing and fun.

M2sound gets the role of guest speaker on Saturday. But don't expect long lectures our main focus is getting out on the water. Catching a fish is worth hours of talking about how to do it.

Hi all.  I'm planning to come Saturday, would love to try out a pedal boat.  Do you take a number and wait for one to free up?  As you can guess, it'll be my first time there...

Mellow yellow,
A weighted 15-20ft add on line would work also. That way you would'nt have to spend all the money on a whole new line and you could use it with floating line, that way you can swtich between dry and buggers or streamers with out to much down time.

Thanks for the info. I think I will bring my 5/6 weight rod instead and track down a full sink III or IV fly line in order to get down to 20' for trolling.
