Hello there.

I am an avid kayak flyfisherman from the Texas Coast.
I've been in to kayak fishing for about 10 years and combined it with the fly rod about 5 years ago.
Our fishing on the Texas coast couldn't be further from the magnificent PNW!
I'm used to throwing shrimp & baitfish patterns to tailing redfish, speckled trout, flounder and black drum in less than a foot of murky water.
We use SOT and SUPs exclusively in Texas. Too much heat for SINKs.
The that is moving north includes an Ocean Kayak Prowler 13 and a wonderful Diablo Adios (SUP/SOT/fishing kayak).

Patti and I will be relocating to Bainbridge Island, WA in June.
I've spent many years chasing cutts, bows, brownies & brookies in streams (mostly in Wyoming).
And as mentioned earlier, I'm used to casting an 8wt from a kayak.

I'm definitely not a fly fishing purist.
If the wind is blowing or the fish aren't hitting flies, I'm perfectly comfortable tossing lures (baitcasting reel or spinning) or even bait.

I've been part of a great community, TexasKayakFisherman.com or TKF, here in Texas and found this board.

If there is anyone around (Bainbridge, Olympic, Puget Sound area) that would be kind enough to show a PNW newbie the ropes, let me know!

Thanks,
Midcoast Mark

The Mark is my real name, Midcoast relates to my part of the TX coast.

Welcome "up"! I look around the TKF boards every so often - good community down there. You ever do any beyond-the-breakers fishing down there?

I'm heading down to TX for a short trip in June that I'm hoping includes some inshore kayak fishing (Chorpus Christi area). I've never fished down there, but it looks beautiful.

Welcome to NWKA - lots of good people here. I'll be really curious to hear what you think of the BBI... my wife and I love that little island and daydream about moving there.

Howdy Redbeard,
I am not one of the BTB fleet down here.
The fishing they do is AWESOME and tons of fun, but my focus has been the skinny water.
BTB = exciting launches & paddles across a surf line, weighted baits, BIG FISH including sharks.
You will find Corpus Christi a magnificent place. Good clean water within easy reach of a launch and lots of deep water or shallow water options. Definitely check out Slowride at Aransas Pass. He is the best. Lighthouse Lakes is magnificent.

Post your pic of your first redfish if you make the trip!

Thanks for the info! Looking forward to it. My goal is a redfish, a flounder, and a black drum. I'd love to get into some speckled trout too but we'll see.
