I want to mount a fish finder on my Revo13, but also want to keep the price down. My Trident has a Humminbird mounted due to compatibility with the transducer (kept it in the Johnson family), but no GPS. The Lowrance Mark-4 Combo Marine Fishfinder and GPS Chartplotter (10483-001) seems reasonable and has GPS for well under $200. Does anyone have experience with this specific fish finder? Thanks in advance...Dave

I just put an Elite-4 HDI on my new Outback.  I've only been on the water with it for about 12 hours so far, but I really like it.  That Mark-4 is similar, it should perform well. Keep in mind, the pictures show GPS with depth contours, you only get that by adding a "chip" with navigational data.

The HDI has both 2D and Down Imaging sonar, you can have them both on the screen simultaneously, as well as GPS (3 windows).  I've mostly been running DI and 2D side by side (split screen).

I'm not convinced the Mark 4 and Elite are compared. I seem to remember there are significant differences between the two, maybe it was power output?

Anyway, Bang for the buck the Mark 4 offers good value. I had a Mark 4 DSI for a year or so. The GPS functions worked well and the sonar functions were okay. I really disliked the DSI function and it made it really hard to identify if you were seeing fish or not. The effective depth of the DSI was also only between 15-35 feet. Having a color model would have help but it still doesn't have the range of my humming bird 383, a non dsi model.  The other issue was that the screen is small and when it's got rain on it it's super hard to distinguish between a rain drop and blip on the sounder. This plus the lack of the DSI in deeper water drove me crazy and I decided to sell it and get a color hummingbird model.

Oh, and if you decide to buy that unit the first thing you need to do is goop the little memory card slot on the bottom. The little door is just a crappy piece of rubber and will fall out on your first Huli and fry the unit.

I hope the new model is better, when it comes to water resistance.  I don't plan to turtle (does anyone?), but it would bring the suck if the head unit fried because of the card slot on the bottom that is plugged with a piece of rubber failed.

I wouldn't expect the (new?) HDI and the Mark 4 to be on a level playing field, but they should have similarities.
