Add a hook to your downrigger for its weight

If you mount a downrigger on your kayak, you need someplace to put the downrigger's weight when it isn't in the water.  There are convenient and secure places to set a weight on some kayaks, but on other kayaks the weight will roll under your leg or push against your hip, and it may move around in an annoying manner or fall off into the water.  If you add a hook to your downrigger or its mount, when you bring the weight to the surface you can hang it on the hook.  Be sure the hook is positioned so it holds the weight against the side of your kayak, so it can't swing and bang against the side of your kayak.

Find a piece of closed cell foam about 2" thick.  With a sharp knife carve a SHALLOW cone into the top surface.  Drop the foam somewhere in the yak. Drop your downrigger ball in the carved depression.
