I'm been thinking about converting my fish finder tranducer mounts to the pool noodle pocket method but I can't find wide enough pool noodles around here.  Anyone know of a decent source for big pool noodles or other closed cell foam?

Thanks,
Brian

what type of minicell do you need exactly? We have 4"x4"x16" blocks of minicell, along with a lot of pre-shaped outfitting pieces

I've also got smaller chunks lying around my basement if you only need a little bit.

I have a ton of the closed cell packing foam. (Pic of my transducer holder is in the FF Screen thread) It's worked well in my boat.
I'd be more than happy to share.

BTW: A breadknife cuts thru this stuff like it's warm butter.

Thanks only a little bit is all I need.  Probably two peices on the order of 1.5"x3"x4" or so would be perfect.  The sad thing is that I had a bunch of closed cell packing foam over xmas but didn't save any.  Spot, I may take you up on your offer.

FYI...I noticed a bunch of pool noodles the other day a the dollar tree by my house.  I think they may have been around 2" or so in diameter and approximately 5' long, dunno if they are normal ones or just some dollar store junk..

Yeah the 2" diameter ones are all over the place.  To be effective for transducer mounting however you need them a bit bigger than your transducer, so 3" or 4" in diameter would be better.

I cut up a knee pad used for gardening that I found in my garage... it has worked out great (at least until my wife finds out  >:D)

Walgreens has some of the larger pool noodles for $5.  They are in an extruded flower pattern (5 lobes w/ hollow center)

You're welcome to it.  Also, I have a little kid size wetsuit and size 2 booties (both in excellent shape) for your son.  They'll take him from around 2 or 3 thru around 4 or 5.  It's perfect for surfing, yakking on cold days, rafting, snorkeling rivers and boogie boarding rapids.

Free is best, but Andy and Bax has that really nice foam closed cell foam that whitewater guys use. They are over on Grand near Morrison. GREAT place to get hardware and cordage for leashes and the like. Not much detail on their web page, but definitely worth a trip if your in the neighborhood.
