My friend Mario came up with this alternative to Hobie's $$$ front bucket. We used Tubtrugs middle 6.9L model and it comes in lots of colors! Fits really well! Costs about $25 up in Humboldt Co. but half was shipping which might be cheaper for several buckets. If you're near a larger city you might be able to find them locally. I am using a 2012 Outback.

Great idea!!  I have been thinking about buying the Hobie bucket recently. Thanks for a great post.

Cool. Looks like a great way to keep the extra rain layer I bring with me dry.  Usually I stuff it in the front hatch in a dry bag, but this looks way easier.  Fill it with ice and beer and I am ready for the George Roger's bass bite.

Or put a little ice in there and toss the crabs in.

Great!  TLW uses those tubs for gardening.  I think she's going to lose one.

Somebody said that Walmart might have a cheaper bucket that will work as well for $5 or so. Also mentioned was leaving 3/4" to bend over with a heat gun to make a lip.
