Got the GoPro hero 3+.....looking for some mounting ideas, I have few in mind but wanted feedback from what others are doing. I'm going to use it on my outback and all 4 molded rod holders are already being used, I was thinking making some kind of modified ram ball mount in the hole for the sail. Pictures, ideas, suggestions would be great.

I'll watch this thread with interest as I continue to find new ways to incorporate camera mounts to my fleet.

This is what I've done so far: First I use the GoPro brand adapter to standard 1/4-20 female thread (aka "tripod mount"). This way I can swap in one of my cheaper waterproof cameras any time as almost any camera device has the tripod mount.

I've tried a couple of things, but I've found I like an "over the shoulder" view the best, so I built a PVC arm/boom that attaches to my milk crate behind my seat. I took the head off of a cheap tripod and rigged it onto the PVC boom. I started with a dollar store pocket tripod head, but found out the hard way that it is worth exactly what I paid for it when it failed on the ocean. The slightly higher quality one I'm using now works much better.

The boom goes out about a foot and up maybe 18-24" off the deck. That seems to be about right for what I want when I'm in wide mode. In normal mode it can be hard to get what I want in the frame from that position. I can fairly easily detach the GoPro from the mount using the quick clip (no need to unscrew from the tripod mount!) if I want to put it underwater or get a close-up of something, etc.

The downside of my setup is that it's not nearly as flexible as a RAM-mount setup or other options. Looking forward to hearing what other people have done. You can search, too. I remember seeing some good older threads on this subject.

Mighty mount and a dog bone extension works really well.  You can move it from boat to boat or different might mounts you have installed wherever you see fit.

Its mounted to the front hatch on our tandem and my revo

I had the same results when I utilized a cheap mini ball head I picked up on Fleabay.  Brand new Sony AS100VR donated to the ocean floor without my getting to see a second of footage off of it.   I ran some dacron line though a small hole into the PVC just below where the ball head is installed, through the PVC and down and back out by where it attaches to the kayak.  Little clips on both ends so it attaches to camera housing on one end and kayak at the other.   Essentially a long camera leash.

I used to think that Bigfoot might exist. Then I saw the reality shows where they are looking for them.  Now I am certain they don't

I put together this mount that I can lock into a Scotty mount in the front of my PA12 gear board or behind me in our Oasis in a Scotty mount on the side of my rod/gear rack.

I attached a GoPro mount arm (that I think came on a suction cup mount) to the top of a Scotty extension arm, added friction discs at the bottom for infinite adjustment plus a lease and some floatation...about 20" total which seems to get the camera up and out plenty...cheers, roger
