I am having trouble deciding if I should get a Ocean Kayak trident ultra 4.7 or a Hobie Revolution 13?  Both have good reviews, what are your opinions on them both.  if I can get both, I will, but that is no way chance in hell.  thanks guys.

Do a little searching, this topic comes up frequently. I'm pretty sure it was covered pretty well just a week or two ago.

But to answer the question with a question, this is easy to figure out - would you rather paddle your kayak, or pedal it? Hobies are generally considered to be the lesser boat as a boat, but the Mirage drive makes fishing so much easier. So if you want to paddle, get the Ultra, if you want to pedal, get the Revo.

If you are an experienced kayaker taking up kayak fishing you may prefer a paddle boat.

If you are a fisherman taking up kayak fishing you will prefer the Revo13.

I was a fisherman taking up kayak fishing.  I started with an OK Trident 13 Angler.  I had never been in a kayak until I took the T13 out for the first time.  They are great boats.  The next year I bought a Revo13.  Occasionally my friends use the T13.  I use the Revo13.  For me the mirage drive trumps everything.  If you can afford it my advice it to get the Revo13 and start fishing.

The other bit of advice I have for you living in Bremerton is, do not be intimidated by Puget Sound.  Get out there on your 3rd or 4th trip, just pick you conditions carefully, and be properly equipped.  Most of the summer it is just a really big, really cold lake.

They're the lesser quality of boat between the two. If it weren't for the mirage drive nobody would use them. I love my two Hobies, but the deck layout, and durability don't compare to my other 3.

Hey Eric, you can use my Revo at the next HOW event to help your decision. Demos are nice, but a full day on the water paints a whole new pic.

I agree with both statements.

The hull quality differs between my T13 and Revo13.  The Revo13 is softer, thinner, and more delicate.  You have to give up some deck space for the mirage drive, so I'm not bitching about that.  I mostly launch off unimproved beaches, and am VERY, VERY careful of the hull.  I'd never drag it.  I put the cart on at the waterline.

That said, you'll love a Revo13.
