So I received some news today from the Air Force...I received orders to Anchorage, AK!  I'm excited to try my Hobie Outback in those waters.

I should be there at the end of October...can you fish year round there, or does the weather get too crazy?

I look forward to fishing with you

Kardinal84 would tell you that year round kayak fishing is very doable. I hang my boat up in November and take down my skis until April. In October though -- think steelies, rainbows, silvers, Dollies.

 Dangler,

You will be getting there about the time the snow starts falling. Don't let that deter you. Just be prepared for it.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

I know some guys that float and drag the Kenai for rainbows and silvers all winter
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

Welcome to the forum!! You've found THE spot for the best info on fishing waters like we have here in Alaska!

You'll find the outback a great platform to do a lot of different things up here!  I have two!

October is one of the best time of year  Kings should be available in Homer.  The Kenai River should be fishing well for a shot at a trophy trout.  And all the lakes if they haven't frozen up, will be going nuts till it freezes over.

I do believe Kayak Fishing can be done year round here.  I can't say Kayak "catching" (of target species at any rate) is as easy.

Take a look at website I slapped together,  Not nearly the info there is on this board, but its a touch more region specific.  That website should lead you to my youtube channel and you can see the fishing I do.  Mainly ice fishing in the winter but there are open water opportunities! http://AlaskaKayakFisher.com

We have a get together planned for June 28th at Whiskey Gulch.  Keep an eye on the Alaska section of these boards for updates!  Hope to see ya on the water!!!!

Thanks everyone...I'm looking forward to it!  I've got this summer to finish exploring the Washington Coast, and then onto bigger and better fishing up there :)

I am so jealous. I was stationed at Elmondorf in the mid-80's. About a month after my arrival that world record King of 97ish pounds was caught. Seriously wish I was back there. Have fun!
