Wouldn't argue with a guy with international tastes.

I plan to be there. Sarah does as well--though her work has been (continues to be) crazy busy. If she cannot participate, I may have another person able to go--my bro in law.

IF he does AND Matt still has the spare dry suit, I'd sure like to borrow it. Right now, I'm borrowing my bro-in-laws, and I'm too poor to buy my own! (Need to get Sarah to work even more hours!).

Okay. I'm still definitely in,  but alone. Sarah isn't.  I bought a dry suit this past weekend so I'm good on that front.  Thanks for the link though.

If we can fish from 12:01AM Saturday to 12:00PM on Sunday, we can have (and in my case, will have...) caught 4 monster sized halibut. Is that considered a "stringer"?

I'm asking b/c in the rules it says "one day/tournament length"--just want to be sure we all agree on what that means. I read it as 36 hours, so as long as 2 are caught Saturday, and 2 between midnight and delivery on Sunday, they would all count.

Is that correct?

Ok.  So some info to help out.

First is the Marine "spot" weather for WhiskeyGulch.  So far so Good.

Here's a chart from my Navionics.  Note the tide marker near shore and the current marker a few miles offshore.

Here's the current chart.  High Slack is at 5:30am. Low slack is at about 11am.

Here's the tide chart:

For those that are wanting to camp out....rimfirematt and I will be heading down early (Thursday or Friday) to secure the good camping spot.  Once there, you're welcome to pitch a tent nearby.

Things to consider:
-firewood isn't a guarantee on the beach.  Either bring it, or buy from the guy just around the corner
-porta potty available on beach
-showers available at the top of the hill at the lodge
-closest stores are in Anchor Point & Homer.  Ninilchik and Happy Valley have stores, but not real grocery stores.
-Don't drive on the beach unless you have to.  The sand can get pretty soft down there, but the exit from the beach to the parking lot is where most people get stuck

I'm sure others will chime in with other hints

What's the headcount so far?

I'm going to try and leave Anchorage at 10am on Friday and be on the water around 2pm for the afternoon high slack.  A little gear check and pre-fishing.  All of the sudden I have new friends after posting the halibut videos...they'd rather eat than catch the fish so I may need to stock up on a few more halibut like Kenai_guy style!

So far this year I have fished four times and limited all four times.  Tally so far is 224 pounds of round halibut which translates into 103 pounds in the freezer at the often quoted 46% boneless skinless recovery. Wow...all I need now is a 30 to 50 sockeye salmon, couple of dozen cohos, and a half a dozen to a dozen more kings for the rest of the year!  But I do have a one additional stand up freezer that I haven;t even plugged in yet!  Ok.  I can keep another 100 pounder for this tournament but I get the feeling I will be donating halibut from anything I keep on the kodiak trip!

Get pysched!  Weather is a bit funky.  Calling for 6ft on Friday, but lower near Whiskey Gulch.  Looks fish-able Saturday and Sunday.  We will see!!!!
