Hey Northern Bros and Sistas, Took my Family to a Hideaway on Lake Sutherland,

Really timed it right considering the entire state of California is on Fire :-\

Kool lake and Jigged up several kokane and Cutthroats or Browns?... not sure...
I was using dungenous stingers in a Blue back with white top, pearl running thru it,

another jig was a terminator in Rainbow trout, a crippled Herring in Rainbow Trout would kill.  Fun lake with a Motorized Canoe that came with the Gig, But put a couple of ski boats and some jet ski's in the mix and the thrill is gone :-[

Kuba did well right off the dock with this 16" Cutthroat...

Lots of fish in that Lake, but hit it early or remember it when it turns cold again,

Visited the majestic Park system and saw the Tall Ships come into Port Angeles...

Great Time up there with the Family and Great Weather,

Maybe relocating in the not so distant future..

Good Day Eh.... and sorry to say I won't be making Moutcha Bay,

Big family Gig Happening down Here at the Same Time....

 Catch ya soon ...... Danglin

So those spotted trout are Rainbows?

Our Bows down here are just that, Rainbow colored.

I thought the way the Trout looked with the Redish Orange under their fins,

That was a Cutthroat,  but, I have seen Browns with these markins too, just they had

a much more Browner Dorsal Side...

 Bsteves????

What Danglin, I have to identifiy your fish up here too?

I'm actually still getting used to all the trouts and salmons up here, but I'd say that was a cutthroat.  However, If Pisko Sicko says rainbow, I'm apt to go with his opinon as a WA trout fishing guide.

Distinguishing between cutts and bows on that side of the mountains can get tricky. Like the rockfish, they seem to have a tendency to hybridize, and appearances aren't divergent.

Generally, though, bows tend to have their spots in equal density fore and aft, while cutts' spots tend to be heavier in distribution towards the tail. The silvers (freshwater sockeye) were obvious for their lack of spots.

Sounds like it was a fun time. On the trout I.D., I don't see any rainbows in those pics. Just Kokanee and cutts. That 16"er of Kuba's is a very nice cutt!! Those are nice kokanee, too. Sutherland is known for its cutts and kokanee, as is Lake Pleasant closer to Forks. No browns have been stocked in those lakes. They have stocked rainbows, though.

Dungeness Stinger? Is that a kind of candlefish looking jig, similar to a Pt Wilson Dart? If so, I think my cousin Dave makes 'em up in Sequim. He started the operation in his garage...not sure if he's still doing them.

Ha Ha, those jetskis and waterskiers will make an early riser out of you. I hate em, as I have a hard time prying this old carcass out of the rack early enough to be at the lake at dawn. I kind of like the late morning/early afternoon bite earlier in the Spring. When it heats up, however, the early morning and late evening bites get good, so I guess these motorheads are providing a sevice to people like me who need added incentive to get up while its still dark outside! ;D

Hmmm, sure looks like a cutt but there's something missing.  No orange/red on the fins or the below the gills.  I'm on the fence.

Its possible that the trout in question may be a "cutt-bow," as the two species interbreed and cutt-bows are known to be caught from lakes that have self-sustaining populations of cutthroat. I often suspect one of these crossbreeds when I have a hard time telling which species it is.

A couple of subtle I.D. elements are: the longer upper jaw bone (on cutts) which extends to the back (or even behind) the eye, the yellow or gold coloring on the lips/jawbones (cutts), and the presence or absence of teeth on the back of the tongue (cutts have 'em, 'bows don't).

Cutt-bows are harder to I.D. since they often have spots like Cutts, a Rainbow's pink blush on the gill cover and pink stripe down the side, and sometimes don't have the slash under the throat.

Searun Cutts and Steelhead also will cross-breed, and I think I have caught a couple of those. Hard to tell for sure, though, as some fresh chrome searun cutts don't show the orange slash on the throat.

Wow...

I no idea there was such a mix on those fish, I would go with the cutthroat id if I was a Betting Man, just cause when they came up, there was a Bright Orange flare on the underside of the Gills and fins,  Pretty Kool,

Ya, the Dungenous Stinger is a Candlefish type lure, I really wanted a Rainbow Trout color and None was to be had, The only trout colored jig I had was a " Terminator ", caught and released many fish then lost it :-\

Then started with the Stingers and found the Blue back, pearl stripe and white Bottom was hot,

others, green/red stripe, Blue/red stripe, chrome on both,  not so Hot..

Again, a lure Jensen Crippled Herring " Rainbow Trout " would Kill or some of those your cousin makes in that color would be good too.

That Cut my son caught,  wow, just goes to show luck of the Kids, short cast off the dock,  2 in the Afternoon,  Bam!!!!

 Nice Fish

And Ya bSteves, You think Hiding up there would save you,  No Way!!!!

You Will Always be a Go To Guy ;) ....... Danglin
