Busted rods don't work too well. But I'll tell you from experience that a rod attached to a hooked salmon works even worse if you don't hold on to it.

   So Shannon ,

You're starting to get the  feel for salt water action. You have come along quite well in a short time.

Looks like you are getting into more sizable black rocks now too
I am waiting for your enthusiasm when you get into some really big fish.
Staying tuned------------have no doubts you'll report in soon.

Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

What a great day, I had lots of fun fishing with you yesterday, shanon.  Just wish that the fish were cooperating.   A side note here, I started with two red colored shrimp flies on top of a purple gulp grub, with no luck.   Fished that for a half hour, then changed it up to yellow squid looking grubs on top of a bright green gulp grub (this was the hot setup a week ago).  Still no fish.  Then I tried dropping a herring,  another half hour and not even a bite.   Not sure what all Shannon was trying but for the first two hours neither of us had landed a fish.  We then both tied on black and silver lancer jigs and it was game on.   Together we landed 8 decent sized blacks in about 30 minutes.
Thanks for posting the pics, Shannon.

It might be  coincidence, but I think it is the magic of Lancer Jigs! ;)

I can still hear my dad talking to me when I was 5 years old..."stop reeling your fish through the guides".

Man! That takes me back!

My grandpa was my mentor and it was " don't need to shove the rod down his mouth and out his butt we can gut him at home"
Good times always
