Whew. Jojo has way more tolerance for condescension than I do!
Doesn't bother me one bit Redbeard takes a big man to insult someone's disability but it takes an even bigger one to help someone over come that disability and that's all I'm asking is for those that have the ability to post up some days they are free and where they would like to help those without it learn that part of it.

Jojo-

Do you carry a knife on you?  If not, I have an extra I can loan to you at ORC. If so, why didn't you use it to free your leg?

Do you want to make the drive over to Portland? I don't have the free time to drive out to the coast for safety training but if you want to come out this way I could set aside some time.

I do and as a backup for fishing line I have a forceps/scissors combo in my vest pocket. I didn't know it was on there because it was hooked in the laces couldn't really feel it there just knew my foot didn't want to cooperate. You may also note the line didn't actually snap the knot slipped. I'm not sure how it slipped after it came off the rocks. It happened real fast and Del was within 20 yards of me and we had me back on board in under 5 min. I only attempted twice to solo entry before getting assisted.

That sounds like a great idea, and even if I can't make I'm hoping others in here that need the help will also sleek up and show up. What days and times work for you? Where's a good spot? Who else wants to come? Also wouldn't be a bad idea to practice helping recover others without becoming a swimmer as well , as I see someone else  posted it may be a good idea.

Weekends. I think we tried to do this a while back but didn't get much interest. Chinook Landing on the Columbia wouldn't be a had spot. As a HOW volunteer I can spare some techniques we've used to get guys back in their boats but there are probably more qualified instructors than I.

Jojo, looks like you had a big treble hook on that jig stuck to your foot.  Keep in mind treble hooks are three times more likely to stick you in an area of the face or other body part, and can be way way harder to remove safely than a single hook.

The snagged lure than got you in the drink, could have easily popped free and lodged in your ear, eye, or nose and really made for a bad day.

In the ocean, I never use treble hooks especially attached to heavy projectiles like lead jigs.

Great point!

Single hooks don't snag nearly as often and are much easier to free also.

That one isn't going back in the water it's going on the wall. I primarily use lancer jigs just wanted to change it up the guy I got it from told me to pull the treble and put a single on the nose but I forgot to before going out.

Might have made a for a different outcome that day had you heeded his advice.

Better I found out I need more entry practice now then in wilder water without a buddy that close.

Jojo ....
Yes it is good you had a learning lesson, but seriously you need to stop talking so much and start listening.
You are obviously new to both fishing and kayaking. If you truly want to get better and be safer you need to listen to what people tell you. You said you have read through thousands of posts about how to do things right, but yet you went out fishing with 80# mono main line. There are many threads about using no more than 50# braid.
Your friend told you to remove the treble and put on a single hook, and you didn't.

I get that you think this is simple and until you were swimming you thought you had it all figured out.

There are a lot of guys here with a hell of a lot more experience than you, listen to what they have to say.

If you really are worried about not being able to get back in your boat practice in a way that will make you stronger i.e. training....
Go to the lake and swim laps in your dry suit and pfd.
Get back it without using your feet.
Get back in with your eyes closed.
Put on ankle weights and get back it.
Deploy all of your fishing gear, flip and get back in
..... Repeat.

You don't need some one to hold your hand you just need to listen and spend some time on the water.
