I ran into a great problem to have over the last weekend: With two of us and gear in the Oasis, there was no place for fish.

On Saturday we just drug them beside the boat all the way into harbor. But it was painful for my ego because CrabbyCabby was right beside us with his Native Slayer Propel and I had to keep insisting that the Oasis is pretty fast with both of us pedaling when I'm not dragging a drift sock's worth of fish beside me. He just kind of kindly nodded and smiled and slowed down his pedaling.  :embarassed:

On Sunday we ended up putting them in the front hatch (which is good since we huli'd coming in  ;D ). This is doable but if there's any other suggestions I'm all ears.

Lee: Where on earth did you put that halibut?

I dragged it off the back.  It was a long two mile return to the shore

Where is the video of you surfing back in on your halibut using it like a boogie board?

Same question here - was actually hoping to check in with you on Saturday to see how you and Christine handled your load of fish.  My solution, with the two of us fishing Saturday, we only kept the "big" ones, filling the little well behind me with 3 lingcod and a cabezon.  Had we actually caught something of size!?!?!??!?!?!

Not sure I'm ready to use the inside of the hull for fish storage yet.  With the ling smell still coming off of my used twice drysuit, cannot image what the hull would smell like after stuffing some dead ones in there!

Thanks,
Sam

You might want to think about putting an aka out to one side (or both sides) and building a platform or trampoline off of that. I put a crossbar on my Oasis for pretty much that reason, but since I fish it only solo I haven't run out of room. (Gotta say that rear seat makes for a large storage area.)

A guy over in Hawaii, Paul Belmudes, fishes out of an Oasis, and did so tandem for awhile, although his initial reason for buying the Oasis was for extra fish storage. You can search under his name or http://www.yakhawaii.com/ for several articles and videos on his experience. He put a dual outrigger on his boat.

Thank you everyone for your feedback.

INSAYN - I will check out the fish trailer  :D but I don't know if it's for me. It definitely would solve the problem, though.

Lee - That's what I figured. But man... that had to have been some work! I thought dragging around a dozen rockfish was painful!

SamM - I washed out the inside of the hull with fresh water at home thoroughly, drained, and have stored it with all hatches open, and as of last night no lingering smell in the hull. Word of advice, though: keep the smaller fish on a stringer or rope... because they can slip into the back of the hull pretty easily! Luckily I had Christine's 28" cab plugging the gap.  ;D

sherminator - Thanks for the link and idea, I will check it out. I don't know if it would be the solution for me but I'm always interested in checking out ideas. I know what you mean about all the extra room when fishing solo in it. I fished solo on Prineville Res all day and besides the wind pushing me around a bit it was pretty spacious in there, even with the 230 wheels and 3 crawdad traps in the front.

Red. You can always spritz the inside of your kayak with bleach, let sit 10-15 mins and rinse thoroughly.

Then there is this option.   ;D

Yeah good point. I was thinking about using this disinfectant stuff my wife gets, but honestly the fresh water rinse worked fine for us. I'll definitely consider it in the future.

I don't know about the fish backpack! :)

Worth every single drop of sweat.  NWNoob had it even worse.  He stayed out ALL day, making it back to shore after 4pm, dragging his 49" 'but along side his outback the entire way.  I think he learned to leave the milk crate at camp next year.

Red, how much real estate do you have behind your seat before the rudder?

Maybe make a PVC rack that sits just above the rudder that you can strap a catch cooler onto?

Or a PVC rack over the front hatch for a catch cooler.

One other thought:  the oasis doesn't take much to kick.  Bring your drive plug and have your wife plug her drive well, then put the fish under her feet.

Rory strapped is 52"er to the back of his outback behind his milk crate and even added a few lings to the mix ..... There is plenty of room. :D
