Well not much to report fishing wise since it was pretty much a chilling weekend w/ the wife and dog but did have some good fun. Headed out to Deception Pass for some camping and fishing.

Got my limit of rainbows out of Cranberry lake right next to the campground the first night on a fly lined Little Cleo. Didn't have the cam for that outing but all were under my current best trout on the AOTY so no biggie.

Cruised around and did some sight seeing and was amazed again at just how beautiful that area is. reminds me a lot of the Carmel area back in Cali. Kona dog and the scenery..

No fishing that day so got into some fire grilled burgers and salmon rice. GRINDS!!

Went out to sample some nice LMB fishing in the area but unfortunately not the best day. There was a few PB'rs in bass boats who I talked to when leaving at the launch who got skunked... something about rolling my yak back to the car while they trailer up their boats that makes me feel not so bad. ;D One very cool thing that day though. While I was out fishing the wife taught Kona how to swim! He was always shy about water so it was a really big deal. Not only did he learn to swim but he also rode in the kayak w/ me for the first time!

I did throw a crab trap out while we were out and came back to a full pot! a total of 6 dungies and one red rock crab. Unfortunately the dungies were all undersize but the red rockie was a bruiser @ 6.5".

Had a crab dinner w/ pasta and headed home. Not the biggest fishing weekend but got to get some in while building some WAF.

Nice report and great pix, Z!  The dog looks really alert, bet he will come to love riding along.  The snap of the grill makes me hungry...nice job of the exposure. Camera??
I noticed that Sanyo makes an underwater videocam for about $300, would be neat to take video of  nice king coming to the net---if you could get the pooch to run the camera while you're landing the fish!
I used to fish Little Cleos back in Michigan, they were dynamite for just about anything in the lakes back there----

Thanks for the report Z.  I like how you used your Japanese wife's diminutive hand for scale on that red rock crab.  I'm sure using one of your own large mitts might not have been as impressive.  I'll have to remember that trick.  Still a 6.5" Cancer productus is huge.

Was that Z/s wife's hand?  I thought that Z just had unusually delicate features.

I think the dog has some wolf in him and is insanely alert. always looking to eat some small animal! The camera is a Pentax Optio. A really realy really great camera that's fully water proof, takes great vid and pics and takes a beating. Couldn't recommend it more. Oh yeah, Little Cleo's so rock don't they?

Ha ha, caught me. I actually was going to forgo the pic but she was stoked and snapped the pic. You know that's a funny thing about being bigger than the average bear, is that even large fish don't look so great when you're holding it up.

Below is a 17.5" SMB and looks pretty tiny w/ me holding it. From now on I guess I'll have to "Fish Sniffer" them to make up for it...  ;D

Now worries.. I used to have my wife hold my fish too.. ;D   I think now I'm just going to have my 2 1/2 yr old son do that for me.  Imagine a 17" smallmouth held by a 34" boy... better yet.. when I get that 57" sturgeon and I have a picture of him riding it.
