When I was living in SoCal hooping for lobster was a big thing and diving for them as well was big. Has anyone ever dove for crabs of there yak. When I was over at kayak point during the summer guys were hooping for crabs and you couldsee some of them right there underthe pier. I felt like jumping in and grabbing a few. I know that they dont move as fast as lobsters so it may be too easy. So has anyone ever heard of duing that.

In the early 90's I used to scuba dive for crabs, mainly around mukilteo.  We used to be able to find crabs in 15-40' of water.  They would be very grouped up by size and sex.  So when you finally found the legal male crabs, it was easy pickings.  With 40 minutes of average downtime, we'd usually be able to get what we wanted in 1 dive.

POLEPOLE,
 Thanks for the tip.
Next time I keep catching nothing but fat females, I will move my traps. Was ther any noticable pattern or area the fellas liked to gather?
 Thanks

I didn't notice any patterns as to where the big fellas liked to hang out.

BTW, you don't need to move far either, sometimes just a few feet away I would encounter another group.  And sometimes the groups would overlap, but you could defintely tell where one ended.

And rock crabs were always around structure in big numbers.  There used to be this log we'd come across every now and then.  It would be packed with rock crabs.  It was on a mud flat and we'd never see any rockcrabs in the mud.
