Check out this great YouTube video taken by a guy from Australia who flipped his Pro Angler twice in quick succession, producing a yard sale of loose gear which floated off in the wind.  There is a cool shot taken while the PA is upside down the first time of an apparently unleashed fishing rod sinking past the camera.  After the second flip, you can see items of gear floating off towards the horizon, and it appears that he headed for safety, abandoning a large tackle box, a cooler, and various other items behind him.  The video should make you think about whether and how you have your fishing gear attached to your kayak.

That is a lesson learned the hard way bye bye yeti cooler and all his fishing gear I've definitely lost some tackle but I have everything either secured to the yak or on leashes...

He was close to shore in shallow warm water.

Visualize this in 48 degree water a mile out warring immersion gear. Welcome to our world.

whew, definitely some good lessons learned there.   I appreciated that they guy gave up trying to recover gear and just went for safety.   You could definitely sense his growing stress and his relief when he made it in.   It was kind of eerie seeing that kayak upside down for so long the second time.

Time to get a few more leashes and to schedule a practice session for "righting" my PA.

thanks for sharing.

I think he eventually retrieved his cooler -- at the end of the video there is a frame that the cooler is missing, then remaining frames after 4:50 where it appears.  Maybe one of the power boaters fetched the cooler for him.   That weather looked nasty.  Definitely makes me take heed of attaching gear.

Somewhere in the comments I think it says that he eventually recovered everything that floated.

I always try to have everything except a few lures secured and this kind of video just reinforces that.

I actually had a dream this past weekend that I was fishing with all of my gear unsecured and a rogue wave tossed me and all of my fishing gear in the drink.

Am I the only one wondering if his Dad got his hat back?

From the shot at the very end of the video, it appears that both the guy and his dad lost their hats.
