Curious what you guys are referring to - re: draining system?

My Oasis has the "mini-scuppers" under the seats that come with screw-in plugs installed. I don't know if that is new or not.

The article mentions a venturi scupper, which I take to mean that it will have a poppet valve in the seat scuppers, with the scuppers designed to create low pressure in the scupper tube when water is flowing by - known as a venturi effect.. The faster the water flows, the lower the pressure created in the scupper tube, which will open the poppet valve and drain water. Slow down and the valve closes, stopping water from getting into the seat area from the bottom.

Wet seats seem to be a common complaint from our warm water brethren. Since we are so often are wearing immersion gear we seldom have the same complaint.

Very cool - I get what you're saying. Agree, re: immersion gear, but I don't like sitting in water even in my wetsuit or drysuit. It just feels wrong :) Also it's nice for draining blood/lingcod puke so you're not marinating in it all day.

Cool stuff, all of it. I really do think there will be a lot of pre-2015 models on the used market this winter.

The Mirage drives are now 25% more efficient and include a bearing system that doesn't corrode. Hobie's 2015 line is pretty slick. I will be in SLC at OR this Thursday and will get lots more info. Chillin in Moab now with the family :)

Cool.  The seat should be a nice addition to the Outback.  I don't know about the others.  The Adventure seems too narrow for that style of seat.

All I'm wishing for is the new style transducer mount on the Adventure hull.

I found this.

I noticed the silver look to the drive in that photo.  Hopefully the bearings are ceramic/stainless.  But even stainless can go south in saltwater.

They are gonna put the vantage seat on the Adventure?!  :-\

2015 will be a very exciting year for Hobie Kayaks as they introduce the new Vantage Seat on all of their Hobie Mirage Series kayaks (picture below of the 2015  Hobie Outback with raised vantage seat) with the exception of the inflatables. The new seat brings better back support and keeps you higher and therefore dryer.

Well the new drive looks pretty cool, hope it fits the older Hobies, I'd be interested in upgrading that! But I would not want an Advenure with a higher seat.

The bearings are a made with a newly designed high tech plastic bearings that will not corrode.

Wonder how much higher this will push the pricing on a new Hobie.

Jammer,
Please let us know, when you get hands on, if the adventure is Aldo getting the new seat and if it is going to be higher than the old one.
Thanks!

I was hoping to hear that. Thanks.
Any other info on these? Will there be an upgrade kit for current V2 drives? Have you tried them and would it be worth it? 10% sounds like a noticeable increase.

I wonder if this will also decrease the stresses placed on the drive arms...

I'd be interested to know how they calculated that 25% effeciency improvement.  Is that all down to the bearing change, or did they change the fins or other parts of the drive as well?  Do you know what kind of plastic they're using for the bearings?

Don't expect timely, detailed responses to all of these questions.  He's on the road and still getting the details.

Another article said 10%. Visually I don't see that they changed much, so I doubt there is a lot of difference. I do know that my wife will appreciate the blue fins, though... she says our red ones attract sharks. (All evidence to the contrary.)

I don't think it's physically possible to add 25%.
