Looks like they are jumping on the bandwagon with Jackson and the other companies that offer better seats.

Just saw a picture of the new 2015 outback with the same seat as the PA.

There may be a few other changes too.  I was really hoping to see a square center hatch, but looks like that did not come to fruition.  No one will tell me but OR is this week so I expect we will find out soon.

Looks like it will cost you the price of new Outback - it doesn't look to me that it is backwards compatible.

Cool.  The seat should be a nice addition to the Outback.  I don't know about the others.  The Adventure seems too narrow for that style of seat.

All I'm wishing for is the new style transducer mount on the Adventure hull.

Looks like they changed the side trays and midship handle too. Hmm, interesting.

I saw this post on Facebook. I'm pretty sure that's a Sport. I could be wrong though. Still a cool feature and I'm curious if it's going to be backwards compatible.

I wonder how the height of the lawn-chair style seats with respect to the surface of the water will compare to the height of the original seats.  In theory, the new seats could position your butt at exactly the same height as the original seats.  Unfortunately, many manufacturers seem to be making seats higher and higher, which reduces the stability of the kayaks.  My view is that these are kayaks, not small bass boats, and I want my seat as low as possible, to improve the stability of the kayak.

I sense a disturbance in the kayak force.

Or maybe it is the sound of hundreds of Hobie owners typing For Sale ads...

Looks interesting! I'm definitely up to demo one and upgrade my Oasis. I don't see any possible way it's backwards-compatible with the current model-year Oasis or Revo. I don't know about the Outback. A lot of safety cops forget: comfort is a safety factor! If you're not comfortable then you will fatigue must faster and make poor decisions much sooner.

I think the update to the Mirage Drive is at least as interesting as the seat, though. I realize I'm in the tiny minority that doesn't really have a problem with the current generation seats.

Mostly I'm just happy to see that Hobie is innovating. Everyone complains about the seats, well they updated them. There have been incremental updates every year of the last few at least that I know of. I know that my mid-ship hatches do not suffer from the same seal issues that were reported a few years ago, the V2 mirage drive, different sail mast attachment point, etc.

The seats are fully adjustable.   Height,  angle,  recline

Thanks for posting the link! I wonder what these updates are going to do to the total weight gain, the center of gravity, and I'd also be worried about  the longevity of any metal-based roller-type bearing in a saltwater environment.

Any other news on this new draining system? (Is it a solution looking for a problem?)

I don't think so,  most Hobies are wet rides,  with the exception of the outback,  and they didn't add the drainage system to it according to the article.

Curious what you guys are referring to - re: draining system?

My Oasis has the "mini-scuppers" under the seats that come with screw-in plugs installed. I don't know if that is new or not.

My Oasis has the "mini-scuppers" under the seats that come with screw-in plugs installed. I don't know if that is new or not.

The article mentions a venturi scupper, which I take to mean that it will have a poppet valve in the seat scuppers, with the scuppers designed to create low pressure in the scupper tube when water is flowing by - known as a venturi effect.. The faster the water flows, the lower the pressure created in the scupper tube, which will open the poppet valve and drain water. Slow down and the valve closes, stopping water from getting into the seat area from the bottom.

Wet seats seem to be a common complaint from our warm water brethren. Since we are so often are wearing immersion gear we seldom have the same complaint.
