My new (used) hobie outback

So my first maiden voyage on my hobie was eventful.  I went to WG after seeing a circus of people with "terrible hooks" at seward.  I managed to test my kayak and came away impressed with speed(hit 5.2mph...GPS fishfinder says so), stability, and did I mentioned speed?  I caught the noon tide and didn't get any bite.  As I approached the beach, I forgot to retract the rudder and this is what happened.  Now, I thought I could continue to fish without the rudder because my other kayak doesn't have one.  Well, the hobie outback is a giant Tupperware  without a rudder...very hard to track straight.  I managed to catch the last high tide and got skunk again.  Too bad we don't have a local hobie dealer because I now have a semi-fast-hard-to-steer kayak.  The new part is on the way...in a week.  To minimize downtime, I used aluminum rods/epoxy/goop to patch the broken rudder...for now.

Wow...I am surprised the pin didn't break...

Sorry to hear abut that.  I may have to carry my standard rudders in my repair kit.  I would highly recommend carrying a repair kit and proper tools.  One weekend a guest holds the mirage drive up and says "Something is wrong..."  Uh, yeah.  One fin is gone!  lol.  2 minute fix with the Hobie repair kit.

In Kodiak I broke the idler cable.  Need to order extras.  But you can still use the drive without the idler cable but you will stress out other parts.
