Hey All,

Has anyone launched from the Long Beach Peninsula? I am guessing Beard's Hollow would be the best, maybe from the salt side of the north jetty. Has anyone tried? If not, I may have the intel next week.

I've played in the surf there but never launched. Beard's Hollow is your best bet. There is usually a small protected area just north of the first rock outcropping but I would only do it during <2' seas. Its a long shallow beach so you will have multiple series of breakers to deal with. I would not suggest launching on the north side of the jetty that is where the largest surf is and there always seems to be a powerful rip in there when I've fished it for surf perch. If something goes wrong you are going to be on the rocks in a hurry unless you launch up by the lighthouse.

My bigger question is what are you hoping to catch out there? Bottomfishing the north jetty and ocean coho can all be reached more easily and safely from other locales with less complicated launches.

I want salmon. Where would you suggest? I may just stick to the river.

Lots of opportunities to kayak fish salmon.

1.) Non-selective Coho is (or has) opened off Pacific City. I saw tons busting the surface < 1 mile from the rock.

2.) Lower Lewis River coho. They haven't showed up yet but they will soon. Easy fishery. Troll wiggle warts (Orange, Pink, or Red) around the confluence of the East and North Fork. You can run two rods with an endorsement.

3.) Troll the incoming and slack tides on the Columbia from Kalama to Woodland. Flasher and spinner. Cooler water temps will help turn on this fishery maybe this little bit of rain will kick things in gear.

After September 15th a world of opportunity opens up above Bonneville. You might have to sort your way through some darker fish to find a respectable chromer but they all taste great smoked.

Hey Thanks!

I am going to go for a rematch at the spot I hooked up in the lower Columbia, then maybe check out the Lewis with wiggle warts. Thanks for the info, I appreciate how everyone here wants to help each other catch fish.

Skøl!!!!
