It looks like Catch and release sturgeon fishing opens back up on the Willamette between the falls and the Lake Oswego Railroad bridge tomorrow September 1st.  Does anyone know generally speaking how the fishing is up towards the falls this time of year??  Any thoughts on where to anchor?  I'm thinking of hitting the water tomorrow morning for some C&R.

Anywhere around George Rogers is good. If the flow isn't real strong, it is not that difficult to anchor closer up by the falls.

Langcod and I were trying to remember the date of this last week.

Me: "I swear it's the fifteenth."
Langston: "sounds like an important date"
Me: "yeah it's stuck in my head for some reason."

Short silence of two guys with wicked ADD staring at bobbers

Me: "oh hell... My anniversary that's what the fifteenth is. Man I hope I remember that next month..."

You're funny...I hope its not the 15th.  I did look at the odfw website.  I hope I got it correct.

Isn't that spelled with two oo's not two bb's? You better not forget that date or it's going to get real expensive to get the house key back from her.

I was marking only big fish where I was at but didn't have any takers.  A Guy over on the bank caught a few small shakers.  I did have a couple bumps but they were very light.  I'm thinking water temp is still too warm.

Del,

George Rogers is a great place for Sturgeon.  Paddle up to the concrete tower, in the middle of the river, there's a spot there that goes from 28' to 140' quickly.  Paddle up to the 28' spot and drop anchor, then drift back into the deep hole.  It's also a favorite spot of the guides, but they are normally friendly.

Did you figure out if the opener was the 1st or the 15th.  I live 10 min from there, and would like to get out too.

Guys,

Yesterday I went from the Cedaroak (West Linn) boat ramp downstream to George Rogers Park.  I anchored up in about 120 feet of water and fished for a few hours.  I had a few bumps, but no takedowns.  I will say, I was marking a lot of fish between the Cedaroak boat ramp and George Rogers Park.  My gut feeling and from talking to others on here, it sounds like we need cooler water temps before we can expect an increase in sturgeon activity.  I am hoping for rain.  I would like to get out again in 2 to 3 weeks.  It would be nice to meet up with others for a day of fishing.  A little more current would help with anchoring as well.  A little bit of wind makes it easy to spin around on your anchor rope.

Sounds good.  I launched out of Cedaroak this time and used my electric trolling motor for the trip down to George Rogers and back.  How hard do you think it would be to pull my PA 14 up the hill at George Rogers Park (Minus trolling motor and batteries)? I have the cart with the big inflatable wheels.  The wheelie cart or something like that.

The hill is not bad.  I push my outback up the hill fully loaded all the time.  For me, pushing it up hill seems easier than pulling it.
