Reminder video to keep your attention on the surf....if I would have payed closer attention, this wouldn't have happened.  I am glad it did, because I learned a valuable lesson.  I hope others can learn from this video.. :banjo:

Nice salmon, you are far from the only one to go for an unplanned swim at cascade head.

When you flipped your kayak back over, did you grab the fins of the mirage drive?  Nice quick re-entry!
Fun fishing vid.

I grab the mirage drive and the far side of the bow where it is narrower, then pull toward me and down.  I practiced a lot after taking a not so friendly swim at PC.

Ahhh.  Cascade head.  A great kayak surfing location. Don't look at it as a huli, look at yourself as a triathlete. Fishing, swimming, and kayaking.  Sounds like a fun day to me.

When are they making that area a marine reserve? I thought it was 2014?

Cool video and nice fish. There is a sand bar in that general area that causes the waves to break there. After you shoot the hole it helps to make a left and head for the two rocks. That will generally give you a little shelter from a swell coming from the west. On my surf landing there at low tide I actually landed directly on it with my drive it. I'm lucky it didn't  break off both fins but it did knock all the cables loose.,

Noah,  thanks for that advise!  Do you still pass the three rocks on the north or go around to the south?

There is special regulations/marine reserve which affects ground fishing but trolling for salmon is legal.

Casccade Head was made a Marine Protected Area this year, and you can fish it for bottom fish from private boats or salmon troll from any boat. The Marine Reserve, where you cannot fish at all, starts at approximately the south end of the beach south of the Salmon River, and extends south to around the Surftides Motel in Lincoln City.

That was a nasty sneaker wave. Nice self rescue. Will bring an outrigger if I fish there. Cool looking spot.

May want to consider peddling through the surf zone with a paddle in your hands.  You can see in the video that you reach down with your hand to try (fruitlessly) to  brace yourself.  With a paddle in your hand, you could have easily braced yourself instead of rolling over.

That's good advise for sure.  After watching it again I see what you mean.  Stupid thing was it was in my right hand in a position that was completely not going to help me.  Kinda asleep at the wheel.
