Nice work Jim - we have a couple of free divers on the forum who should be very interested in your catch.  Those are some nice fish.  Well done -

Alan

These pictures are great!  I'm new to the Northwest and would love it if you went back in and listed the species for each picture.  There are a bunch I've never seen before like that crazy fish with the large red band in the middle.  It s mouth/head looks a lot like a tutog so I bet it eats lots of crabs and tasted fantastic.

Thanks!

The one with the black head and tail and red body is a Male california sheephead.

Very cool fish. They all start off as females and are solid red. There will be one male with a harem of females...when the male dies, the biggest baddest female will turn into a male and the head and tail will turn black and the forehead will get a more prononunced bump.

Here is my PB male:

And my PB female:

I am actually working on a little video project to show some of the different species we get out here...when it's done I'll share it here for you.

 :)

Sincerely,

Jim

Wow,  they change sex.  Learn something every day.  That's pretty neat.

Pretty cool huh?

Sometimes you find some mid-change or maybe just undecided which way they want to go?

Are you sure they aren't called "Portland sheephead"?

I'm bored and got skunked this morning diving in the surf looking for stripers, so here's some pics from the end of 2014 and beginning of 2015.
