Today I went out and did the kayak version of motor mooching. I started out by catching herring with my herring rig. Once I got enough I started my search for salmon on the FF. I truly didn't believe it would work but to my surprise I hooked up with a 26" king. I can say now I am sold on this way to fish. Special thanks to Lee who recommended mooching in the sound.

I truely commend you on this great accomplishment. Quite remarkable to fish so sustainably & working the food chain for some harvest to table results. Bon appetit & fish on!

That's awesome! You never forget your first salmon from the kayak.

Where in the sound were you fishing? I didn't think it was open anywhere nearby to kings at this point.

I was in MA 13. From what see it looks like MA 11 - MA 13 is still open.

Great job!
I am hoping to get out in MA11-13 Sunday, depending on weather, and so far it is looking good.  Thanks for the encouragement!

Nice! You'll be able to do that through most of the winter.  That's how we've always fished for winter blackmouth (motor mooch, this is my first year with a yak), good job on your own bait and getting the mooch motion down, I can't wait to try myself.  Once we get into the later months Areas 9-12 will open up for Chinook too.  Misery Pt into Seabeck Bay in the Hood Canal is a good spot once it opens up.

Definitely.  Looks like it opens Oct 16th, I probably won't be able to get out until November sometime.
