I found a girl that loves to fish!  This is kind of a fishing report, but more of a brag about my lady and her first salmon.  And from a kayak to boot!  She even managed to get it in the net and on the boat without any assistance.  This one is a keeper.

We started out bright and early (oh-9:30) on an undisclosed coastal river, on a tip from an undisclosed expert fisherman, using undisclosed magical spinners.

I had been trying to get her hooked up to a salmon for weeks.  She had one on a few weeks ago, but fumbled it at the boat, and the stink of defeat was still lingering.

Now I am by no means a great fisherman, or a great teacher so she probably would have done well to pick a better man, but I am not complaining about her poor judgement!

We could see from the launch that coho were flopping around everywhere, and I saw several boats hooked up, so my hopes were high.

5 minutes in, I had one on for a second, but it was a native for sure so I gave it the LDR.  I swear I left the rod in the holder long enough...

Shortly afterward I hear a blood curdling war cry, and am stuck by the primordial fear hardwired into our DNA to take cover when a woman goes into battle.  I eventually recover my senses and turn around to see my lady fighting a fish like a pro.  The coho put up a good fight, but at the end she got the better of it.  I thought I was going to have to net the thing, because her arms were shot and she couldn't get the head turned.  After a couple deep breaths she gave it one last go.  Fish in net, and on to glory.

Now here is where it gets fun.  I am kind of a jerk, and she has very little fishing experience.  So she did not know any better when I told here that once you get the fish in the boat you have to beat it into submission with your bare fists.   I saw mixed looks of shock, amazement, and outright fear on the faces of the men in nearby power boats when they saw this little woman haul a fish up into her lap and start working it over like a bloodthirsty MMA fighter.  I am still laughing about it.

Once we got it on the stringer and bled out, I let her in on the joke.  She did not think it was nearly as funny as I did.  I am not sure why, but no one seems to think my jokes are as funny as I do.  C'est la vie.

Here are some pics.  I wish I got video of the boxing match!  Hopefully she joins up here soon, and you can all meet her!

I would much rather be up a creek without a paddle than down one.

Nate will tell you that using your fists is the only way to do it! Congrats on the fish!

Nice! Sinker, you have every right to be proud! Keep in mind though that the female "Fists Fatale" is a very effective move on boyfriends as well as salmon.
On the plus side, you now have an attractive pic to attach to your Revo ad!
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

I will note that we are still in negotiations about who is responsible for cleaning her fish.  At this point I am searching for something to leverage in my favor.

Although she is currently removing the eggs from the skein in preparation for making ikura!

Thanks for the nice report and it looks like you and your friend had good weather , too, on top of catching fish. My wife just started fishing this year and we have been married 30 years. I'm worried she has the wrong idea and thinks fishing is too easy because first she got a couple with a guide at Bouy 10, then got one from a kayak last Monday, and then one off the bank yesterday. I have not resorted to having her clean fish or learn how to do her own rigging yet but that's next if she keeps this up.

Thats hilarious & what a catch! If you don't mind I'm going to use this post as bait to persuade my lady to hold a rod while out kayaking with me. As of yet, she is just too scared to step up to the fight but I bet this might convince her. Fish on!

Good job by both of you!

For the record, I would do the cleaning duties. Don't want your woman getting too good with a knife...

Good point Sherman.  I must admit it has been a dream of mine to find a woman who will clean my fish.  Worth the risk?  I hope to find out...

C_run.  Can you please take me out fishing?

I think what you meant was can you go fishing with my wife? She has had a way of almost always catching more and/or bigger fish than me so far.

It was an epic battle and fun to watch. What he forgot to mention is that she caught two more after that which had to be released due to that pesky adipose fin. We all got to take some yummy salmon home that day.  Who's was bigger Erik, yours or hers?
