Hey everyone I am looking for info on kayak fishing tournaments, series style if possible. I have traveled to various tournament's throughout the summer but tough to find anything relatively close. I am in southern Idaho, on the snake river and have started a small derby style bass tourny once a month, but haven't had the turnout I had hoped for, but it is growing slowly.
I am  Hobie pro staffer and would also like to get more involved competitively outside of my area for more than small "single fish" tourny's. And if anyone is interested in reaching out and possibly getting involved with a bass event here in the snake river please let me know!! We do have some awesome smallmouth bass fishing with alot of pb tournaments as well. Thanks again for any suggestions

We don't really do "small" tournaments or "small" fish, but they are generally single heaviest fish (except sunset bay) and we don't have any series.  You can check the events forum to study up on previous events.

I agree with Lee...keep an eye on the Events sub-forum. And post your own events there....might increase participation.

Did you ever make it to the coast for salmon ? If not.... it is not too late.... a lot of salmon still to be caught.
Life is short---live it tall.

Be kinder than necessary--- everyone is fighting some kind of battle.

Sailors may be struck down at any time, in calm or in storm, but the sea does not do it for hate or spite.
She has no wrath to vent. Nor does she have a hand in kindness to extend.
She is merely there, immense, powerful, and indifferent

What part of Idaho? My wife's Aunt lives in Wilder right next to the Snake.

There are now 6-7 tournaments in Oregon and Washington, the closest to you would be the Hood River Bass event in May. The biggest by far is the Oregon Rockfish Classic in July, which this year I believe had close to 100 participants. If you can make it, ORC is a blast.

Advertise it and they shall come.

I think that the majority of NWKA members like to take advantage of all the different species available in the PNW.  There are some die hard bass fishermen lurking around this board though.  I'm sure that with enough notice (and incentive), you could entice them and a bunch of the less bass centric to head East.  Monthly?  Probably not.  Anually?  Definitely.

Digression:  As fun as the occasional tournament is, I believe that kayak fishing in the PNW is still at the stage where it's oddballs, crackpots, obstinate old F'ks and immortal young bucks who comprise its core.  The masses are wetting a toe but keeping an eye on the brash and ballsy to see what's a stunt and what's sustainable.  It won't be too long before the bass masses find the truth but I think that day is still to come.

It might be a bit of a travel and it's a two day event but we hold a NWKA Yak Classic in Alaska!  Likely in June for 2015!  C'mon up!!!  That goes for all the NWKA folks!!

totally agree.  kayak fishing in the PNW is in it's infancy,  it has a lot of room to grow.  I believe the cold water and extra required gear keeps a lot of people from getting into it. I am currently in VA and only a few guys I talked to remember when the only people you would see on the water were people you knew.  its normal over here to see 30 or 40 guys on any given body of water, kind of crazy.  the guys who have been doing it for a while over here say that its only really blown up in the last five years,  you are all on virgin soil on the cusp of the deluge.  ive also noticed that the number of guys who go on hardcore trips are proportional to the guys who just kayak fish in the PNW.  not many guys head out to fish the open Atlantic or even just the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel, the vast majority stick to the inlets or other small water. kind of explains why you will never find a Hobie adventure being sold around here (the place i bought my new yak from three days ago had 100 2015 Hobies in stock and not one adventure (revo 16)).  long story short, if you build (and advertise) it they will come.

Oh does it ever have room to grow! Especially in Idaho!  We are still in that time where the only other yakkers are people we know. I am very fortunate in that I work for my sponsoring dealer so pro staffing is made much easier for me, access to a full line of Hobie is fun but also a lot of footwork as well....haha...I am still new to the pro staff thing but have enjoyed meeting people and traveling to fish, competitive or not.
I do plan on attending the Oregon Rockfish classic next yr, timing and previous trips killed me for this yr.
