Weather is going to be marginal on Saturday I think.  Over the past week, my intel tells me that its slowing down for some of the guide boats in the "normal" spots.  Fish and bait or on the move!

That is typically a good thing for us kayakers. Whenever I hear that the fish are on the move, they seem to "move" into or through the "green can" and the tip of the spit.

I got a pic with 8 nice keeper fish caught.  They were short fish as they headed in.  Stopped at the green can, and BAM...a  triple on three rods deployed.  I was going to go today, but didn't.  I'll be going any day Fri-Sun the weather seems decent.  I need to dedicate one of the weekend days to the family though!!!

Hearing from the guide I do that they are hitting them around the can has signaled the successful start of decent fish being caught for me in Homer since 2011.  Hope it holds true this year!!!

Can't make this weekend, but the next is a long one for my better half so we're thinking of heading to Homer for Sunday-Monday-Tuesday.  Will look forward to your report for 11/1 and 2.  If you think you're going to be down there 11/9 to 11 anytime, give me a call and maybe we can meet up on the water.

I am watching the weather and it looks like snow but I may make the 6 hour drive anyway on the 11/1 or 2. I'll  just take a nap at land's end if the wind and snow are too bad. The rates are cheap now so I may spend a night or two. I had my back fixed so my legs will not be aching the whole way. I have some different lures I want to try, this will be  my last trip for awhile because of work. Have anyone of you kayakers sat on hand warmers while fishing?

Looks like Sunday if I go. It's supposed to snow. I was looking for a shot of fishing in snow but I think I'm going to busy Saturday.

Akfishergal,  you bet.  I plan to be down that way at least one day every weekend that the weather allows.  It is GO time for late season kings.  I have a bunch of the small ones and they are great.  But not nearly as oily as the larger fish.  I'm looking to put another half dozen decent fish in the freezer.

Come mid November, I will have to split "my fishing time" to the hardwater to get the kids involved.  I get the feeling next year might be a zoo at his household for kayak fishing but that is a whole 'nother story.

That's not a bad idea.  Not so much for the cold for me, but being its the coldest areas aside from your feet, that's where the condensation turns liquid.  So if that's happening, it would probably work alright as long as it didn't increase you sweating.

I LOVE trolling in mid 30's tp low 40's temps.  I don't sweat.  And the constant motion keeps me plenty warm.  My saving grace is that years at working at a fish processing facility as a kid as increased resistance for cold in my hands.  I very rarely wear gloves, even ice fishing.

Be careful if you head out!!! Traffic fatality near girdwood.  Here's a pic of the portage turnoff. Looks slick. Everything else looks ok if you can make it past summit.

Use this link to check road conditions.  I find it really useful.

Made the drive.  That was no fun.  Snow and ice in the pass and from Ninilchik to Homer.  On the way back I ran into a blizzard from the Seward Junction all the way to the Whittier junction.  Crazy.  Hands hurt from holding on to the steering wheel so tight!  lol.

What a difference a week makes.  Only one undersized king and three pollock.  That has to be some kind of record.  Went two for two on real sized kings...only because my first fish was suicidal.  Missed it twice.  I have no idea why that leader was so long.  Also, I know you can't net across your body like I did...or at least I can't.

The other crazy thing was I fished herring for over half of the time and still, all three of my kings came on a silver horde coho killer spoon behind a classic dodger.  The other piece of gear that struck out was the konezone flasher in chartreuse.  I cannot catch anything with one it seems like.  I know others have great success with them.  Hmmm...

So here's the video.  Didn't get my second keeper on video due to operator error. Argh!

A few pics...
