Fellow Alaskans

Quick question for you:  I just moved here and right now have no room for the Hobies inside the garage. How do Hobies take freezing temperatures outside?  I have a large covered patio(20x16) that I can put them under, so they wont be in direct harsh weather...but are they at risk of any damage if they endure a winter outside?

Any storage advice is appreciated! Thanks in advance, and I'm loving the area so far!

I'm sure it's not optimal but I was in a similar situation. I stored it covered and on its side one whole winter and it was no issue. I'm pretty sure they are as resilient like the garbage bins.

Now if you are in Fairbanks or places where it can dip to 40 below, then all bets are off. I've shattered hockey pucks hitting the goalpost as we played basically nine, 5 minute periods it was so cold. I've seen "flat" tires as well...not "no air" but literally flat like square on one side from sitting, cooling, then rubber basically freezing. Haha.

If you are in Southcentral AK you should be fine.

Curios if anyone has feedback on what impact of cold weather is on transducers.  Particularly the Lowrance ready mount that are integral to the hobies?

So far the weather feels like Washington weather :)    The Air Force weather guys are predicting no heavy winter storms until February...which I'm perfectly fine with!

Put it on something that won't deform the hull or put it upside down , then cover it with a tarp.  Make sure something is between it and the ground so it doesn't freeze to the ground.  Tarp it to keep snow and ice out of it.

All of that will make it easier to reactive it's use in the early spring for the homer derby or some fun at WG
No matter how many times the PB's tell me I'm nuts....I still smile every time I out fish them

Do you have anything hanging on the garage wall?  I had similar issue with limited space, so I visited Home Depot for cheap u brackets/pipe insulation/locking straps...total $23 and made this contraption:

I have 4 kayaks hanging on these in my garage and they work great. 10 buck and you're done in about 10 minutes.

As of July 12th, I am, officially,  retired.

I would think they'd be just fine. You would assume they're built to deal with those temps. Picture a power boat with the transducer permanently installed, that is stored outside.
