Ok. 90% chance I go.

Sunrise 9:18am

High tide is at 1:55pm.

Sunset at 4:24 pm.

Not much time.  I have no idea when I will leave.  BUT I am going to make sure I am fishing from 1pm to sunset. That should be a good tide.  It falls off to a big minus meaning current flow should be good.  I predict that 2:30pm to sunset which is only two hours is when the majority of the action will happen there.

From what i can gather fish are being caught towards Seldovia way meaning that transition flow by the spit from one feeding ground to another will likely have diminished.  I'll be curious how the pollock situation is. But the consistency of the location leads me to believe that the kings are there by the spit as consistently as any other spot.  Some of my suspicions were confirmed when one of the best charter captains was lamenting how he knew he was motoring by the fish every time he rounds the corner but for what he charges, he needs to give the clients a boat ride that's a bit further away than where they can see their hotel room and parked car.

If I can boat a fish or two early, I want to try using the down rigger with a 4wt I just rigged up.  lol.  My main concern is how am I going to get it to fit securely in the rod holder.  PVC pipe extension maybe? Hmm...

Well we will see. As always the most dangerous part of this adventure will be the drive down.  That's more than the marine weather will be the element that keeps me from going when I check everything in the morning.

Any one else considering a trip?

Good onya Rudy, I'm done with kayaking this year I think at least in the Salt. Some of the Valley lakes have lost some ice so I may dip a paddle today. But if you haul in your limit of 20 pounders all bets are off. Good luck Sensei.

ARGH!  It sure seemed fishy.  I guess that's what you get when you get cocky.  To try something different, I trolled with my 4wt fly rod most of the day.  I used a down rigger to get it to depth.  Hooked 3 shakers.  But no keepers.  Rats. I don't think the lack of a large flasher had too much to do it with...I think....

I also suffered my first catastrophic mirage drive failure.  Broke the arm.  Fortunately I had a spare drive with me so no biggie. Still it would have sucked to have had to paddle back more than the 200 yards I did.

So it was a beautimous day but the larger kings just weren't cooperating.  I would call it the season since i have enough kings but.....nah.  We will see.

Well here's an unexciting video of two of the fish.  Still with a 4wt it was fun.  Can't wait to hook a real king with it.

Hobie will apparently replace your pedal shaft under warranty.  And the guys at Hobie claim that the pedal shafts they are currently manufacturing have been improved, or corrected, and that they won't break.  So the good news is that after only one more catastrophic failure, Hobie will have replaced both of your pedal shafts.  I think they should have agreed to replace them on request, like a recall.

In an effort to eliminate the risk of breakage, I bought a pair of the solid pedal shafts.
