Going after sturgeon Monday morning if anyone wants to meet up!!  Wunderground says about 7% chance of rain till 5 pm.   I'm bringing anchovies,  any other recommendations?

Along with the anchovies you might try any combination of smelt pickled / salted or what ever you have, nice big nightcrawlers, sand shrimp, smelly schmear stuff, and some wrappy string to tie it all together.  I think live sand shrimp scrambling around on the bottom is enticing to a hungry sturgeon.

Spot and Rawkfish both produce sturgeon really well so if they chime in their advice would be premium.  Judging by the photo though you look like you are doing well.  Good Luck -

Consider squid too.  Store-bought, frozen stuff.  Works plain or pickled.  As good as, but not better than, herring, anchovies, and sandshrimp, but it's very durable, cheap, and stores forever in freezer.  Not uncommon to haul up three fish on the same bait.  Quicker to rebait because you can half-hitch it and it won't cut in half like bait fish/sandshrimp (just prep your dacron leaders long enough for this option).  Scents optional, anise seems to work.

If you get tired of hauling in nothing but shakers and want to focus on an oversized, consider whole shad, a smaller one, and make sure your single hook dangles on outside of bait because it might not connect if embedded deeply.

Pyramid lead, instead of cannon balls, is a little better at the Swan Island hole. Keeps bait in place better in the swirling currents.  Start with 8oz for small baits, more if you're going to lob a big, current-grabbing bait.

Pretty much everything mentioned will work.  My go-to is squid with sand shrimp scent.

BTW, you set a great example for picture taking with a releasable fish; right in line with the ODFW Freshwater Angling Ethics!  Sometimes we let the excitement get the best of us and hoist them out of the water to get the best shot.  Not ideal for the fish, especially the larger ones, and not good for our reputations.

(Reference: ODFW 2014 Sport Fishing Regulations, pg 18 "If taking a photo, cradle the fish at water level and quickly take the picture.")

Dinner with the family, then off to work where I will keep Costco supplied with their #1 selling item- toilet paper !!  What's really chapping my hide is I have to sleep during the Civil War game to work that night!

Happy Turkey Day everyone!

Yeah, working retail is tough this time of year.  My wife is a manager at Walmart and at this time of year I wont see her for days... she is up and off to work before I wake up and home after I'm in bed.

of course that makes it easier to get out fishing though... so its not all bad.   ;D
