Would any of you be interested in a friendly black bass/walleye tournament in the Burbank sloughs after the spring run is over? Or maybe a half day bass/walleye tourney on potholes and we BBQ some of the catch for a lunch? I know its far away but yall know how life is.

just saying: If you just want a friendly fishing get together (no prizes, no awards) then call it a meet-up or get together, keep it small and very informal. The regs in WA are very strict for a gathering of more than 6 fishermen, especially for bass competitions. Organized tourneys need WDFW permits and the limited number of bass tourney permits are going for around $600 each and are taken early by the bass fishing clubs. Potholes is bass tourney central and a group of kayak fishermen having a gathering will certainly raise some red flags with the locals.

Or you and a bunch of like-minded anarchists could completely crash a bass tourney with kayaks? Mwah ha hah!

The bass tournament at Potholes in the spring would probably welcome a mob of kayakers. There's big bass in that lake, plus you can nab a 30" walleye if you get lucky (way better table fare).

We've done it with the Lake WA Trout Derby, now kayakers make up about 8% of the entries and interest is growing, even from the hardcore PB guys. We've found the pro bass and walleye guys on Potholes to be very supportive and even interested in kayak fishing. The last trip out there Brad and I met one of the top walleye competitors in the PNW, he keeps in contact via email and bought PA.

Thanks for the advice Yaktrap. I  am very grateful for that bit of information. Well, I'll start picking a date and making plans for a get together at potholes.

I'm in for the sloughs or the potholes.

Sounds cool, I fished potholes about 5 years ago and spent 4 days exploring.  It's mostly a shallow res that is huge, need the map and GPS or you could be circling islands of reeds through a maze of channels.  Very diverse spiny ray population, and I caught a couple nice burbot!  They are delicious! The place is a wind ripper at times. I got caught up in the whitecaps out there -and it's no joke!
