Welcome Eric,

We should hook up.  I live in Eugene.  I usually fish on the weekends.  I might hit a local or coastal lake this week end (need to start on some atoy points).  If your wanting to hit the salt when the ocean calms done the guys right about sunset bay being the best area for your first time on the salt.

Mods, Can you split this topic off. How did they get mixed up? Did BV hit reply and change the subject?
I merged the topic as it seems to be the official intro page for OR.

At first I thought my post was deleted. I started to get a little offended, then I found it here. Yeah I'm form Oregon, but would have never have though to look here under the Portland roll call topic. Any other BB's I've been on there was a "newbies" section just for this type of thing. Just a suggestion...

So I've got to tell you, I have been reading up- particularly on the important issue of immersion gear. Because of the opinions and advice from this forum I now have a new perspective on what to look for in purchasing a wetsuit or other options listed in other posts. Though the summer I've got away with layering and good rain gear, but recognized I need to invest in some better personal gear. Second is reconsidering my boat in what I thought was the right choice for me, But now I am second guessing myself thinking I should have got a self bailing SOT. Don't get me wrong, I really like my WS Commander and all the features it has. In fact I've had it in several of the local rivers in rapids and it has faired VERY well with its pontoon design. I did have to do a bit of bailing with my hand bilge pump, and about 2 minutes later- dry as a bone. This is my third kayak I own, but perhaps it's in the bonz to start shopping for a fourth. LOL! I bought it from Alder Creek. Do they do trade ins? ::)

Dana- Are you fishing for bass/bluegill? I might even bring my son along. He'd get a kick out of that. I wish the weather report was sayin' something different than it is. How come you're not hitt'n the Sturgeon tourney on Saturday? This has been tempting me, however, because of the aforementioned gear issues, I better sit this one out and do some shopping.

Eric,
Immersion gear is life saving.  I skipped the wet suit option and went straight to dry gear (dry pants first).
The sturgeon tourney is very tempting.  I decided not to go several weeks ago.
If I lived closer and was more familiar with the waters up there I'd be in.
Not sure were or what I'll fishing for.  Thought I'd look at the weather tomorrow and decide.  My first choice would be a coastal lake second local lake.

I'm a relatively new Kayak fisherman and looking for a fishing buddy or two to get out on the water with this year. I have two kayak, a 14' Hobie Mirage drive Oasis and a 10'6" Future Beach. I'm planning a fishing trip on the 30th of this month on either the Columbia River or Willamette for some smallmouth action. If anyone is interested just shoot me an email. - Mark

Most of you are starting to know me , but might as well do the roll call thing.I'm in N.E. Portland, should have my lime green Cobra Marauder within the week.

Most my gear is for stream/smaller river fishing/lakes.  4-12lb test line sorta tells you the story. At some point during the year though, I plan to try to get a steelhead from the kayak using some existing gear. They are any of 3 8' rods, 1 trolling, 1 spinning rod, one bait-casting. I think its still good gear on a kayak, your opinions will count to that, if I'm doing something right, I could likely do it better. Ocean fishing to come as time passes, which is why I'm here.

Wow, I was over a year behind on updating the list and I  just spent about 15 minutes catching up.  We've had 18 new members to the PDX crew since my last update (welcome aboard!) and we are now up to 66 members total.   Sure, some members have come and gone since I started the list a few years ago, but the list is still pretty impressive, with lots of regular posters, AOTY participants and folk that show up to our monthly-esque meetings.   I hope to see many of you at the Oregon Rockfish Classic next month in Depoe Bay.
