The Lake Merwin kokanee fishery is turning on again. I have caught near limits on a few of my recent outings. This year's crop of kokanee look great with a few 14" fish already in the mix with chunky 12" fish dominating the catch. This is a great kayak fishery for those just getting started as there are not tides, swells, or currents to deal with although you should avoid this lake when high easterly winds are forecast in the western gorge. Additionally, the lake is regularly fished by kayak anglers and the pb folks have always treated me with great respect on the water and at the ramp. There is still A LOT of time to enjoy this fishery this year. I hope this video helps those new and experienced with kokanee fishing. As always wear your pfd, dress for immersion, and have a safe and enjoyable fishing experience.

Awesome video.

I would love to see your set up for getting your gopro down with your line.  I am thinking about making one of those housings that go with the downrigger.

I typically use shorter leaders (sometimes as short as 8 inches).  I love seeing the multiple fish following the lure.  Suspect there are all sorts of close calls that we never know about and it is fun to see them.

Thanks for the video!

Really cool stuff! I love the underwater footage - so much fun seeing the strike. Hopefully I'll get out earlier next time and acquire the touch.

Thanks for sharing this resource with all of us. It's a truly beautiful place and all of the people at the ramp really were super nice, which surprised me.

Thanks, I'm wondering if Merwin is more productive than Green Peter in Oregon.  I certainly see more good reports on Merwin, but maybe that's due to its location near more people, thus more fishing.

I'm planning to hit this fishery next Wednesday, and would enjoy some company if anybody is willing.

Does anyone know if there is access to launch between the Speelyai Bay ramp and the dam?  I see there's a small marina at Cape Horn Creek, but it looks private.  Thanks!
