Erik - I'm guessing those Weatherpack connectors are waterproof, correct?

YES!!!!!! That's exactly what makes them so great! They seal from both ends of the plug. If you look at the picture of them you will see the ribbed green and grey silicone seals. They are very high quality industrial grade and they work. Not expensive either

http://www.amazon.com/Delphi-Packard-Weatherpack-Terminal-16-14/dp/B004DVM7RG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1422630390&sr=8-2&keywords=weatherpack+connector+kit

But here is the catch.... To install and work with those pins correctly you really should have the proper crimp/release tool(s) not just your regular crimpers will do.

Paul, when you get to that stage, I'd be happy to help you with that part of it. I have some extra connectors, crimpers, AWG wire, heat shrink tubing etc...

Waterman- You are exactly right! Its not the battery itself that needs sealed- it is protecting all of the connections, including the battery terminals. If you can seal them all up you don't need a dry bag or dry box.
Thanks Erik. Between you & Dana I should be able to do this project with very few missteps & a short learning curve.

Unless I'm missing something, I don't have a card slot on this FF.  :icon_cyclops:

nope, no card slot in that one. the "X" in the model # means it doesn't have GPS/chip cabality. Those three rectangular grooves is where the card slot exists on the non-"x" models.

Should be fairly watertight then.

Nice set up Paul. I think my brother-in-law will go that route once he reads this and see's the pictures. Lets get it over here to coast and try it out.

I'd like to take a look at your saltwater flies. I tied some more, but made a couple mistakes in design. I don't think the fish will mind but I don't want to post the pics.  :P

So, I got this Anker battery that has an automatic shutoff feature if the load spikes.  My question is, do I still need a separate fuse?

Well my thought is that the automatic shutoff is meant to protect the battery from blowing up, the fuse is meant to keep the amps in check to the downstream fish finder. I'd still put one in.
My wife thinks fishing is merely guys wandering around like idiots swinging sticks in the air. Many of my trips prove how smart she really is.

Yeah, I was thinking that might be the case.  It's already installed so I'll just leave it there.  Thanks

For those interested, here is an install on an Anker Astro Pro Series 20,000 MAh battery.  The connector on the outside has both inner and outer gaskets, inside connections are soldered and fully gooped, holes through case are gooped, and the fuse is waterproof and is already on the wiring to the main unit.  Tomorrow I'll set up a Velcro connection for this case in the hull. And the ziplock bag has some batting/stuffing to keep the battery in place.
